A 31-room hotel on Paston Road in Norwich, handy for the Cathedral, Castle and Norfolk Broads, with free on-site parking.

About Royal Hotel

Norwich rewards exploring on foot, from its cathedral and castle to the wider stretch of the Norfolk Broads beyond the city, and the Royal Hotel puts guests within easy reach of all of it while offering free on-site parking for those arriving by car. The hotel has 31 rooms, including family rooms, with drinks available in room and free WiFi throughout.

There's a restaurant and bar on site, along with a snack bar, breakfast and packed lunches for early starts. The menu runs from a carvery with a wide choice of meats and vegetables to Thai and traditional dishes, all reasonably priced, though the carvery itself doesn't always hit the mark on flavour. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful, and facilities extend to a garden with outdoor seating, meeting rooms, laundry service, luggage storage and 24-hour reception. Pets are welcome.

Beyond the hotel, the area suits walkers and cyclists, with golf, fishing and watersports nearby, plus pubs, restaurants and entertainment within reach. It's a straightforward base for seeing Norwich and the Broads without needing to move the car.

We went here while staying in Mundesley with our family for a meal to celebrate our Golden Wedding. The food was amazing and the staff and service excellent. As there were 10 of us we sampled many of the options on the menu and no-one had anything other than praise for their food. They had even decorated the table for us. Thoroughly recommend.

Recent stay in The Royal was quite good overall. Room was comfortable especially the bed. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good. Location was quiet and handy for the centre, albeit no pavements. However, the one downside was an expensive and disappointing evening meal. Poor quality food with piles of chips or salad to cover for poor mains.

Lovely place to stay by the beach. The rooms were comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well maintained. The reception team made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The restaurant was a real highlight of our stay. From the warm welcome to the final course, the whole dining experience was exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and showcased the chefs' incredible talent. It may not have a Michelin star, but the quality certainly felt worthy of one. The service was equally impressive. The waiting staff were attentive, professional, and made us feel as though we were dining in a five-star restaurant. A special thank you to Sophia, who made our evening particularly enjoyable with her friendly and excellent service. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing beachside getaway

Amazing Carvery for Lunch £15-16 each). Four different meat options, ample potato and vegetable options. The staff were all incredibly pleasant and very professional. Sat in the main dining area which was very spacious. Dessert of course, would be rude not to. Thank you, as a "local" we will definitely be back!

Guests consistently praise this hotel for its friendly and welcoming staff, who provide excellent service. The dining experience is also highly regarded, with a wide selection of meats and vegetables available alongside superb Thai and traditional menu options, all offered at reasonable prices.

Some reviews mention the carvery can be tasteless.
