Now I love camping, and have never chosen to leave a campsite early until now. I’d read some terrible reviews about the site being on a hill and the facilities being far away, so I went with quite low expectations as it is. We started by checking in at the cafe and being directed up to the meadow where we’d stay. We had no rules or requests explained to us, and the explanation of any facilities was limited to “did you get the email?” Our holiday immediately started off on the wrong foot with a heated argument between 2 other campers about whether a puppy should be on a lead or not. It got that aggressive I thought the management need to get involved, as what we were witnessing in front of children was unacceptable. The woman swearing and wishing death upon another camper honestly terrified the kids. Management tried their best to sort the situation, implementing a ‘dogs on leads’ rule for the weekend, which isn’t the case normally (and this was then ignored by the woman who kicked off in the first place, and another person the next day). Putting up the tent in nearly 30c heat was a struggle as the hill is very steep and there isn’t much shade to choose from. We settled down though and had a lovely day, including a BBQ and a little fire which is great to be allowed on the campsite. Although we made sure we got some water to hand just in case it got out of control as water is a good 10 minute walk or 5 minute jog/run away if needed. The facilities aren’t just at the bottom of the field you camp in, but you have to walk down the small road and across the car park to use toilets, showers and taps. The showers are charged £1.50 for 5 minutes which is steep considering you already pay to camp. Sleep wise, it was the worst I’ve ever had camping. The hill you camp on is so steep you all end up sliding down the bottom of the air bed into the tent walls (in fact, during the day, the hill is so steep you can’t even sit in a camping chair without constantly catching yourself before it falls over). And as there’s no rules or requests put in place, we had our neighbours drinking, talking and debating loudly until past 1.30am, which I consider rather rude as they saw us all, including young children, go to bed around 11pm. We’d booked for 2 nights, but chose to pack up and leave at 6pm before our second night, as many people had shown up and we imagined it’d be even louder that night than the first. Also worth mentioning, weirdly could hear a lot of road noise late into the night, not sure where from. And I hate to mention bugs when camping as it’s going to happen, but again, I’ve camped many a time in England and Wales, and I’ve never experienced so many midges before, other than wild camping up in Scotland in Midge season when we went armed with Smidge! Just worth a mention so people booking in future know what to expect. Honestly, I’ve found better places to camp wild camping than this paid campsite. 10/10 would never book again.

What on earth are they doing selling this as a site for campervans?!! Its a few spots at the back of a very large public carpark with uneven gravel full of weeds right next to a main road! Not safe for families and theres zero camping vibe whatsoever. What made this even more a punch in the face was i had to drive 6 hours home with a little girl at 8pm with nowhere else to stay !! Absolutely disgusting to not only rip people off , cause distress but to so blatantly miss sell something. It may only be £17 but it was the danger of having nowhere to stay with a little girl . Refund please !

A holiday to remember! Great friends, great poached eggs and incredible view. Definitely some improvements to be made, slightly flatter site and the toilet block was abit far. Overall had a great time! Lovely breakfast and coffee. Campsite in the forest does have a small minority of midges but get in a tent and you're well away. Created some great memories for all of us. Definitely won't be forgotten. Hopefully see you next year if I can convince them

Decent site for a camper van pitch although did find it odd that we weren't given an allocated slot, meaning if we went out for the day, when we came back the pitch we were originally in had been taken by someone else - but there were plenty of spaces so this was minor, more just strange in comparison to other sites. Shower facilities were clean and modern enough - you do have to pay £1.50 for a 5 minute shower, but this isn't so different from other sites we've stayed at. The facilities are all locked at night and only one key per all residents in a lock box. On one hand this is annoying, but on the other hand at least the site facilities feel secure at night considering it's next to a main road as only residents are given the key code. We were in a party with people who stayed on the tent pitches, and it does need to be said that the area for this is incredibly steep - no flat areas and a trek away from the facilities at the bottom of a further hill. Makes it very difficult to sit on the field, as both adults and children falling over in chairs from the steepness. Obviously this isn't the fault of the campsite owners, but the tent camping area becomes over run with midges come sunset, making it impossible to sit outside and socialise. We have been camping a decent amount of times to be able to say we've not experienced midges like this anywhere else. As mentioned though, this isn't any fault of the site owners, just the outdoors - but worth mentioning for those booking in groups or with young children. Overall for a camper van stay there weren't any major issues with the site, but those in our party that stayed in the tent field were very unsatisfied with their stay to the point of having to leave a night early and ending the holiday prematurely.
