About Anchorage Inn

Anchorage Inn suits travellers after a sociable base rather than a quiet retreat, sitting on The Promenade in Portstewart within a Victorian pub building that has been updated with modern rooms. It works well for weekend visitors, groups, or anyone happy to have the evening's entertainment on the doorstep rather than a short walk away.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and the option of family rooms, plus drinks available in room and free WiFi throughout. Breakfast is served on site, and there is a bistro restaurant, a bar, and a snack bar for more casual meals, with outdoor seating for fine weather. Kids meals are available, making it manageable for families as well as groups looking for a night out, given the nightclub on the premises. Luggage storage is provided, though there is no parking available at the property, so those arriving by car should plan accordingly.

Portstewart's seafront setting puts golf, fishing, and a choice of nearby pubs and restaurants within easy reach, and Ulster University's Coleraine Campus is close by too, useful for anyone visiting on university business. It suits guests who want to combine a coastal stay with a livelier social scene rather than total peace and quiet.

The worst service from the worst possible error. To set the scene; a group of 18 of us had booked 9 rooms for a birthday gathering - 6 months prior, with the correct date of 7-8th march clearly stated in the email thread. As people started to arrive to check in, we were told the rooms were booked for 9th march instead and they could not accommodate us that evening. All 18 of us had travelled a significant distance to be there and they could only offer a couple of family sized rooms which was absolutely not suitable. The young girl on reception tried her best to secure rooms in another nearby hotel, which were £60 more expensive and not within walking distance. She reported her manager would not compensate the difference in price and they would also not compensate any food or drink (as we had all booked to have a meal there too). We had been waiting 1 1/2 hours when a young man who claimed was a supervisor came over and explained the manager (Courtney) was on site and trying to discuss with the director to somehow compensate for their grievous error. At no point did the manager speak to us personally, and in cowardly fashion, forced the 2 young front of house staff to take the brunt of our complaints and frustration. We simply couldn't believe those in managerial positions were essentially refusing to resolve the issue or offer any sort of real compensation for such a major error on their part. It seemed the manager was on endless phone calls to apparent "directors" that at no stage gave any offer of compensation and were content to leave us stranded and allow their young front of house staff to manage the situation on their behalf. In the end we all had no choice but to walk out with no resolution, no where to house 18 people on a Saturday night and also no food as we had waited to so long to speak to a manager (who never approached us) that we never made the dinner booking and frankly, would not have wanted to give them our money after this abysmal situation arose. The lesson here is do not support such an established that treats their customers in such a disposable manner, hides behind their young front of house staff instead of having the decency to speak directly to their customers, and clearly have a very flawed booking system that they got such a large and profitable booking so wrong. It is an absolute disgrace that still nothing has been offered to compensate for their disastrous error - they have the contact details of our lead booker and the least the managers or directors (whoever couldn't be bothered speaking to us directly on the evening) could do is to now offer a gesture of good will for ruining such an important evening for so many people, all because of their own error and refusal to care and support the people that keep their doors open all these years. Despicable.
