About The Kings Head Hotel
The Kings Head Hotel occupies a handsome Georgian building right on Richmond's Market Place, its position giving direct views over the cobbles towards Holy Trinity Church and the castle beyond. Dating from 1720 and once host to Franz Liszt, the building has been run as a coaching inn and hotel for centuries, and its 24 bedrooms retain a sense of that history while offering the comforts expected of a modern stay.
Rooms range from Classic doubles up to more spacious Deluxe options, each individually decorated, with free wi-fi, smart TVs, Roberts radios and Harrogate-sourced toiletries throughout. The restaurant and bar serve locally sourced, seasonal British cooking alongside a range of regional ales, and there is a separate coffee house for a slower start to the day.
Pet-friendly rooms and dining make the hotel a practical base for walkers travelling with dogs, and on-site parking is available for a small nightly charge, a genuine convenience on the Market Place. The hotel also hosts private events and small conferences in rooms that keep the building's Georgian proportions.
What guests say
We had afternoon tea at The Kings Head in Cirencester for a special birthday with a group of 11, it was a great experience from start to finish. Booking was easy, and the staff were friendly and helpful on the phone beforehand. On arrival, we received a lovely warm welcome, and everything was well organised for our large group. The food was delicious, with a great selection and beautifully presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and there were plenty of compliments about both the food and the service. Thank you to the Riley & team for making our afternoon so enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

Returned after a 7 year gap and was delighted to find the change in ownership had not affected the experience. Checked in and received an upgrade, found the room spacious, clean and well stocked. Dinner was great in the new dining room, as was breakfast. Bar & lounge area very relaxing A great time, at a lower cost than other less well presented in the Cotswolds Will be back

One of my favourite hotel stays in the UK! From the moment we arrived, the staff were fantastic. Everyone was genuinely warm, friendly and professional – although, to be fair, everyone in the Cotswolds seems lovely! Nothing was too much trouble, and the service throughout our stay was spot on. The food was exceptional. Breakfast was included, and it was honestly one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. Everything arrived hot, fresh and beautifully presented. There was plenty of choice too – fresh fruit, pastries, a full English, granola bowls, shakshuka... absolutely chef's kiss. Our room was spacious, beautifully appointed and incredibly comfortable. The bed deserves a special mention – probably the best night's sleep we've had in a hotel. If I had one tiny suggestion, it would be to add a full-length mirror. It would've been handy for checking your outfit before heading out (although, let's be honest, it's the Cotswolds, not Marbella!). The complimentary toiletries smelled gorgeous, but it would have been a lovely extra to include body lotion and a shower cap too. Those are genuinely minor points, though. I'd 100% recommend staying at The Kings Head. The location is perfect, and we'd happily return.

We had the most wonderful stay here to celebrate my wife’s 30th birthday. From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail and level of service was seamless. The team went above and beyond to make sure our children and dogs were well looked after too, which made the whole trip stress-free and enjoyable. The rooms were spotlessly clean, beautifully presented, and very spacious. We also hired the downstairs private dining cellar for a party of 16, and the food was absolutely wonderful, fresh, tasty, and perfectly cooked. A truly memorable celebration. We’ll definitely be back

Diners say this restaurant offers delicious, high-quality food, including perfectly cooked steaks and excellent Sunday roasts, in a beautifully refurbished setting. They also highlight the friendly, attentive staff and the welcoming atmosphere.
Some reviews mention the service can be slow and disorganized.
