Cairngorm Hotel

The town is a great location for all hiking trailheads in the area. Hotel is very charming and the pub was enjoyable with great service. They offer a good variety on the restaurant menu, but the food is average and very much like pub food. They do offer a good breakfast, which was included in our stay. Our room (deluxe king) was charming/snug and clean. However, it was VERY small for 2 adults with luggage on a 4 night stay. There is no elevator, so pack light as getting baggage assistance can be spotty and you have to climb either 1 or 2 floors up. I would agree with other reviews that the front desk service was not warm and welcoming at all.

We arrived by train and the location was super convenient--right across the train station. The staff was noticeably unfriendly--my sense is this place, with its busy bar and restaurant, caters mostly to locals rather than tourists from abroad. No fridge in the room--but the woman at the desk reluctantly agreed to refrigerate some items for us. Rooms were small and furnished with old fashioned Scottish decor (lots of plaid). The nicest staff members were at the generous breakfast, which was included in the room price.

Visited the Cairngorm hotel twice in June ‘25 and had two great meals. Soups were delicious and the mains wee memorable ( I loved the haggis lasagna). I’d heard the hotel had been taken over and read reviews of the menu being changed but wanted to give it a go. The soup ( leek and potato) was fairly bland , not the tasty soup we’d loved before. I had the haggis for my main . If this had been my first visit I’d probably have thought it was nice, but I expected better from my past visit’s experience. My wife who wasn’t particularly hungry had a macaroni and cheese side as her main. She enjoyed it but felt it had a slight taste of fish about it. I had a taste of it and could kinda get that. On the plus the staff were friendly and efficient. The Irn Bru was tasty as was the water for the table. Aviemore deserves great eating establishments and there’s only one which has been consistently good over the last 9 years of us visiting Aviemore and it’s only a stones throw from the Cairngorms hotel.

Fantastic stay at the Cairngorm Hotel for three nights. This historic structure is stately and beautiful with helpful and friendly reception and service staff - the food was delicious and we felt a good value. Our room was beautiful and spacious with a lovely view of the distant peaks. We were traveling by train and appreciated its location just across from the train station. Easy walk to Rothiemurchus where we took a fun fly fishing class and also hiked including around the stunning Loch an Eilein. We will look forward to returning!
