Levenwick Campsite sits beside the community hall in the South Mainland, close to Levenwick's sheltered sandy beach and the rocky coastline that runs south towards Sumburgh. It is a small, community-run site rather than a commercial park, with panoramic views over the water and a peaceful, secluded garden setting that makes it feel far removed from the road that passes nearby.
The site has been upgraded with new accessible showers and toilets, and a well-equipped campsite room includes a washing machine and tumble dryer for a small additional charge. Waste disposal points are provided, and the layout suits both tents and motorhomes or caravans, with electric hookup available for an extra fee. Dogs are welcome, and disabled access has been built into the newer facilities.
Levenwick makes a good base for exploring the South Mainland, within easy reach of Sumburgh Head's puffin colonies, the Jarlshof archaeological site and the airport, while still being a manageable drive from Lerwick, around 20 miles north. The site operates only through the summer season, from May to September, and space is limited, so advance booking through the community's own online system is essential rather than optional. Income from the site goes directly back into running the adjoining community hall, which gives a stay here a more local, less commercial feel than a typical touring park, and staff are generally happy to point campers towards the beach path and the coastal walk south towards Cunningsburgh.
