What diners say
The service was excellent throughout. Friendly, welcoming and attentive, with dishes arriving promptly without ever feeling rushed. The atmosphere is lively, although the dining room is a little too cosy for my taste. At a restaurant of this calibre, I would have preferred a bit more space rather than dining elbow to elbow with neighbouring tables. It is also very loud. The food was outstanding. Every dish was generous, full of rich, authentic flavours and made with exceptionally fresh ingredients. One thing to keep in mind is that many of the signature protein dishes are very large and designed for sharing. Because of that, and the fact that every dish was quite generous, I think Brat is better suited to small groups than couples. Ordering several dishes and sharing them is the best way to experience the menu.

I had an exceptional dinner at Brat in London. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm, relaxed and effortlessly stylish. The meal was a celebration of simple ingredients cooked with incredible precision. We started with beautifully grilled seafood, including perfectly cooked langoustines and squid, both showcasing the restaurant’s signature wood-fired approach. The freshness of the seafood and the depth of flavour from the grill were outstanding. The highlight of the meal was the beef rib steak, cooked to perfection with a beautiful crust on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. Served simply, it allowed the quality of the produce and the skill of the kitchen to shine through. Every dish felt thoughtful without being overly complicated, and the service struck the perfect balance between attentive and relaxed. Brat delivers a dining experience that feels both refined and genuinely welcoming. It was one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in London, and a wonderful reminder that great cooking is often about letting exceptional ingredients speak for themselves.

great food, great service, good wine by the glass program, great setting: rustic country feel. at 6.30 pm the dining room was very young and fun. by 7.30 pm it had transitioned to completely different vibe of date night mixed with larger tables of business meal/entertainment. what a change over. i was alone and had a great time. started with the bread/anchovies, house made chorizo, sweetbreads dressed with a light parsley greens and peas (yum!!!!), over roasted greens (chewy and yums) and the duck, which was beautiful! i separately wanted the turbot but the smallest was 1.6 kilos. the server was incredibly helpful and fun. great experience.

Perhaps the victim of inflated expectations, we found BRAT to be… just okay. The quality of the ingredients is clear but the dishes are nothing mind-blowing, and in a sign of how underwhelming everything was, my favourite dish of the night was technically a side: a hunk of buttered, grilled bread with an airy swirl of butter. We ordered 4 starters and 2 mains for our group of three per the server’s advice, which, quantity-wise, did the trick. The service, however, left much to be desired. It took almost an hour and 15 mins to be served 3 of our starters (and I had to ask for the bread thrice), in which time we managed to finish our bottle of wine, something I’ve never done before reaching the mains. They also forgot one of our starters, which turned up with our John Dory and duck, both of which were pleasant but nothing show-stopping. At this point, we’d been there for more than two hours, so we skipped dessert, paid the bill, and left. £75 a head later, I’m not quite sure where the one Michelin star is to be found. The food itself is adequate, but there’s more inventive and more impressive plates to be had elsewhere. Between that, the long waits, plus the mediocre service (we had to pour our own water/wine, something I found shocking in a restaurant of this calibre), I can’t say I’ll be returning. My advice? Go to Osteria Angelina instead. On our way home we passed a Japanese all you can eat buffet and lamented how much happier we would’ve been if we’d gone there instead.

Diners like this restaurant's delicious wood-fired dishes, especially the grilled fish, anchovy bread, and Basque cheesecake. They also highlight the warm, lively atmosphere and the attentive, knowledgeable staff.
