Intake Farm

Exquisite campsite. Tucked away in a glade between a shaded forest canopy and a small working farm. The farm is busy but the animals are not close enough to the pitches so as to be a bother. The family living on the farm have a selection of farm vehicles and the like, undergoing repair around the farm's fields, which was a fascination for my husband and son. The campsite begins after driving through the driveway and gated access to the main farm barns, and has an entirely different character to the farm; woodland camping at its finest. It has converted buses with running water and ( spotless) toilet+shower as well as a fully set up bell tent with a private kitchen and compost loo+ shower in a cheerfully painted wood hut, with every last piece of equipment needed! There were a couple of pitches, further away from the already peaceful farm, actually in the woodland! Or on a tiny field. The farm has pigs and goats and horses and organises visits to the animals- very much enjoyed! Our family group made use of the campsite's location to visit nearby attractions such as Alton towers and Rudyard Lake ( see photo) for a spectacular day kayaking ( and eating fresh cake and baps from the cafe..) The Churnet Valley steam railway station at Froghall is very close by, as is the Staffordshire Anglo Saxon Hoard at the Stoke museum, Waterworld, the Potteries, Leek Embroidery Society work at St Edward's, Leek ..we just needed to stay longer and would very much like to return.

We camped here in July in the woods for the evening and really enjoyed ourselves. The farm is quirky and full of things to do. The woods were lovely to camp in and we hung our hammocks to relax in during the evening. You can explore the local area on foot and have bbqs/campfires etc. The highlight however was the animal feed. David and Maria were wonderful and took us all around the farm, gave us goats to cuddle, let us bottle feed calves and sheep, feed pigs, learn how cows are milked etc. They were so welcoming and knowledgable, and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting the residents of the farm (especially lady secret who slept in my arms for most of the time we spent in the barn!). You can tell how much they love their animals. Only downside is not the campsites fault but worth noting - children staying in the field beside the woods were left to run around in the woods unsupervised the whole time we were there and kept trying to get into unoccupied tents and broke someone’s hammock. If you’re bringing children please don’t let them just leg it around the site - it’s unfair to other people and unsafe for them to do! This did put a dampener on our stay but this was NOT the sites fault, they couldn’t have done more to make feel us comfortable, hence the 5⭐️ review. We will return (perhaps not in the summer holidays) and can’t wait to see how big the animals have gotten by then. Thank you for making us feel welcome both.

I stayed here for 2 nights ,tucked away down winding lanes amongst the hills. There are a few spaces in the woods to camp , I camped on the little field. It's very quaint and rustic , folks at the farm were very friendly and welcoming. 👍👍👍

This delightful working farm has the most intriguing set up. From redesigned coaches to hammocks in the woods, it caters for everyone. The hosts are so approachable, and helpful and go beyond to make a stay really enjoyable. You can help feed the animals at feed times and even help with general husbandry (but wear your wellies). The farm can sell you eggs and meats for your breakfast. You'll come as a camper and leave as a friend
