The Shottisham Campsite

Stayed two nights here. First time camping as a family, so I haven't got much to compare to. Showers and toilets seemed keen. Pretty chilled and not too noisy given there were lots of families. Small grassy areas separated by trees for 3-4 tents down each side. Right next to the village playground which has football goals too. There's a village pub v close I think. They sell their own eggs and sausages and there are animals you can look at onsite and feed once/twice a week. Our pitch was very sunny and hot in the morning which made getting ready to go out and packing up a bit gruelling so you could see if they've got any shady morning pitches available. Was smallish and felt safe. There are fridges and a freezer and communal charging points if you don't want electric hook up

The campsite is nice and it's very easy going, the booking process was easy and simple and I like that you just turn up and pitch up and left alone and to it. Very quiet and peaceful campsite, a nice relaxing place to get away. Family and dog friendly which is always a win in my eyes. Nearby pub only opens on certain times and days so be sure to check before going down! Disappointed the cafe was closed and looked as though it had been closed for a very long time maybe we are out of season for the cafe?.. a few areas of the site are overgrown and look derelict, only one block of toilets/showers were open but the open ones are very clean and showers are lovely and warm. The walks and veiws around the site are beautiful. All in all we had a lovely stay and we would book here again just some areas let the campsite down.. the website tells a different story to what you find when you get there.. if you can overlook that it's a lovely site.

We booked a pitch well in advance as we were going to be camping over the August bank holiday. The booking process was straightforward and Claire's communications and instructions were excellent. The campsite is divided by rows of trees and shrubs which helps to break up the site, makes it feels smaller than it is and reduces sound bleed from the other pitches. At night the trees provide a perfect frame for a star filled sky (as long as there's no cloud cover). The facilities were good, toilets and showers were clean and there was always hot water. There are 2 fridges, a freezer and power points for campers to use. Electric hook ups are available too. The Feed the Animals sessions and adventure playground were very popular with the children on the campsite. The playground is away from the camping pitches so the sounds of children playing doesn't intrude those wanting some peace and quiet. The rural setting means there is an abundance of wildlife large and small, the dawn chorus was a joy to wake up to each morning. There is a campsite 'shop' which sells their eggs and honey, logs, kindling and fire pits for hire. Claire was very helpful and friendly and was keen to make sure we had everything we needed. We loved our stay, it was very relaxing and peaceful, we will be back.

This little campsite is a real gem! It's actually not so little but due to the way the hedging/trees have been planted you are in lovely, secluded sections that feel really great with only a few others in the same areas. Pitch sizes are generous, other campers seem to respect everyone's peace, space and the beautiful tranquility of the site, making it a successfully relaxing break. The facilities are clean and spacious. The animal feeding for the kids on Wednesdays/ Saturdays were great, be prepared for roaming chickens to enter your tents they're that tame. We had the best time here and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to be surrounded in nature and peace. Claire the owner was so lovely too, she clearly loves her campsite.
