About The Tedding

The journey here is a treat in itself – through Long Melford's historic high street, over the Roman bridge, then down Kentwell Avenue, a reportedly haunted three-quarter-mile stretch of lime trees leading to Tudor Kentwell Hall. The Tedding occupies four acres within this historic estate, which served as an army camp in both world wars (look closely at the gateposts for soldiers' graffiti).

It's a deliberately simple setup: no electricity, no public lighting, so bring a torch for nighttime navigation. The camping field is kept vehicle-free for peace and safety, with gates locked after dark. You'll have toilets, water and chemical disposal, plus a disabled toilet near the estate shop 300 metres away. Wildlife is abundant – raptors overhead, muntjac and moles at ground level – and the tree-fringed setting feels genuinely secluded.

Long Melford's restaurants and shops are a mile and a half away, with a tearoom at the foot of the avenue. Some visitors note the facilities are basic for the price, but if you're after unspoilt tranquillity on a storied Suffolk estate, this ticks the box.

This is a fantastic camp site. The managers are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are more than adequate. Lovely big shower rooms. It's so peaceful and great for dog walkers. Make sure you have levelling ramps. We would not hesitate to stay at this site again. Thank you.

This is my favourite campsite. The location is beautiful set in Rendlesham Forest and close to Tunstall Forest and the Suffolk Golden Coast. The fields have great facilities, the washing up area is clean, well lit with hot water, a microwave, washing machine and even a kettle. There's a shop on site and a great café that's open on weekends. The showers and toilets are modern, clean and spacious. The wardens are welcoming, extremely helpful and very friendly. We'll certainly be going again

My partner and I adored Wantisden park a Breathtaking part of England, the Suffolk Ram plot is amazing. Everything was really nicely designed, all the small things had been covered like good water pressure, space inside and great amenities. The hot tub and overlooking a stream was as serene and peaceful as you can imagine, The area is beautiful with plenty of walks and the coast is not far either, the site manager was a lovely person and we will be returning as soon as we can!

A wonderful one night stay in a small wooden tent, pleasantly surprised. Clean amenities and shower block. Bargain for the price. Owners were friendly and welcoming, I'll definitely be back.
