Tilmanstone is not a hotel destination in its own right, being a small village with no accommodation of its own, but it sits within easy reach of East Kent's coastal towns, which between them offer a wide range of places to stay. Deal, a few miles to the east, is the most characterful option, with seafront hotels and guesthouses set among its Georgian streets, pebble beach and pier, and a relaxed, unhurried feel that suits a short countryside-and-coast break. Dover, a little further south, has a larger stock of hotels geared towards travellers using the port and Eurotunnel, ranging from budget chains to hotels with castle and Channel views, and makes a practical base for visiting Dover Castle and the White Cliffs.
Sandwich, one of England's best-preserved medieval towns, offers smaller boutique hotels and guesthouses within its historic core, a short drive north of Tilmanstone, and pairs well with visits to the Cinque Ports coastline and nearby golf courses. Canterbury, though a little further afield, is also within comfortable reach and adds a wider choice of city-centre hotels alongside its cathedral and university-town atmosphere. For those wanting a quieter base closer to Tilmanstone itself, villages such as Eythorne, Nonington and Eastry have scattered bed and breakfasts and farmhouse accommodation, often run by local families and well placed for exploring the former Kent coalfield landscape at Betteshanger Country Park as well as the castles and cliffs along the coast. Booking ahead is worth doing in summer, when Deal and Dover in particular can fill up with visitors heading for the coast and the cross-Channel routes.
