Hotels in Ulverston

Ulverston's accommodation is centred on a handful of characterful town-centre pubs and inns with rooms, several independent bed and breakfasts, and a scattering of small hotels and guest houses on the approach roads into town. Because it sits just outside the busiest part of the Lake District National Park, prices here tend to be noticeably lower than in Windermere, Ambleside or Keswick, while still leaving you within easy striking distance of Coniston Water and the southern fells by car.

Booking a room above or beside one of the town's historic pubs, such as those on the market square, puts you within walking distance of the Thursday and Saturday markets, the Laurel and Hardy Museum and the walk up to the Hoad Monument, without needing a car for the evening. If you would rather stay slightly out of town, there are options towards the coast at Bardsea and Canal Foot, both a short drive or a pleasant walk along the canal towpath from the centre, and useful if you are also planning to explore the wider Furness peninsula or Morecambe Bay.

As with much of Cumbria, rooms can book up well ahead of the town's summer festivals and the winter Lantern Festival, so it is worth reserving early if your visit coincides with one of these events. Outside of peak weekends, Ulverston is generally an easier and more relaxed town to find a last-minute room in than its better-known Lake District neighbours.
