This former public house retains the character of its past life as a village gathering place. The building is a terraced cottage in Bampton, a Thames valley settlement that has become known as the Downton Abbey filming location. Three bedrooms sleep five across two floors, with a single bathroom. Downstairs there's a living and dining room with woodburner and television, a kitchen fitted for proper cooking, and access to a cellar. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and electricity are included, along with initial logs for the burner during the colder months.

The enclosed garden with patio and lawn is private to the property, though a neighbour has a right of way through it. On-road parking is available. The village centre is a ten-minute walk away, where you'll find four pubs, shops, a library and post office. No smoking indoors.

Bampton sits two and a half miles from the River Thames, with walking and cycle routes nearby. The wider Cotswolds—Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water—are within thirty minutes' drive. Oxford is eighteen miles south. Carp and trout fishing is available eight miles away.

Regularly organise and go here for work/team meals and have always been praised as the food and service is exemplary. Progressed to family meals because of the quality of food and service. Today, we went as a family for a 6yo birthday meal as the little one wanted to go to where daddys birthday meal was. The service was the usual amazing standard, the food was the usual standard of simply delicious! But what made tonight ever so special was how the owners and all the staff made my 6yo feel the centre of everything, even singing happy birthday with a special dessert. The way everyone goes above and beyond is simply amazing. Thank you everyone.

We went to the Plough for my birthday. The experience from beginning to end was great...could not have asked for a better birthday. There was 11 of us and were staying in a holiday home nearby. Dave the owner came and picked us up. The ambience and service in the pub was great. The food was good. Would highly recommend this place.

What a fantastic place . From the moment the family were picked up until the time we were dropped home you could not fault one thing . . We booked here on Saturday 30 th may to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday. We chose to eat at 6 as we had 3 small toddlers there were 10 eating . The food was excellent along with the service . We were never rushed and made to feel very welcome. My husband had a wonderful time . Thank you . I can’t wait to revisit .
