About Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf & Spa

Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf & Spa sits on the northern edge of Whitchurch, built around two eighteen-hole golf courses and a leisure club with an indoor pool, gym and spa treatment rooms. It is the closest thing the area has to a resort hotel, aimed at guests who want facilities on site rather than a purely town-centre stay.

Bedrooms are set in a modern low-rise wing overlooking the fairways, with the option of golf, spa or dining packages for those making a longer break of it. A brasserie-style restaurant and bar serve residents alongside golf and spa day visitors.

Its position half a mile from Whitchurch town centre means guests can walk in for the market, shops and railway station, while the surrounding Shropshire and Cheshire countryside, including Brown Moss Nature Reserve and the Llangollen Canal, is within easy driving distance.

I stayed for two nights on a deal through Spa Breaks. While everything included in the deal was provided, there were some shortcomings and some absolute standouts of the stay. The room I stayed in was huge with an equally huge bed. It looked over the golf course and was peaceful however it was dated with holes and stains on the carpet and a tired look to the rest of the room. The bathroom was okay with a separate bath and shower but again was tired. I had to ask reception to get the toiletries refilled and more importantly to clean the grime from around the plug holes and the shower door and bath taps which housekeeping did put 75% right the following morning. The absolute standouts were the staff in the restaurant particularly Isla who is a really wonderful, friendly and attentive person (5 stars) She went out of her way to cater to my needs. The food in the restaurant was good, particularly the haddock though it was pretty pricey and I wouldn't have eaten there had it not been for the deal I'd already purchased. The wine was also expensive and so as a solo guest I didn't buy any alcohol outside what was included in the deal. The spa experience was pleasant but poolside is very slippy and the sauna very small. The treatments I received were fantastic though. Overall a bit more investment and attention could easily make this a really wonderful place to stay.

Second time visiting but didn't book a room. Came with my parents to play golf at the Sapphire course last Saturday around 1.10pm. Terrain was a bit rough at the beginning, didn't seem very well maintained but from about hole 5, things got better. Shorter course - Par 66 so definitely felt doable but for first timers like myself and my partner, the buggy was a godsend. Staff were courteous, helpful and polite - the service we received was memorable. ☺️ very decent price, and may give it another go on our own. Would definitely recommend visiting 🙏

A bunch of us with our wives spent 2 days 1 night there this weekend and loved it. The food was excellent, the golf course, The Emerald was a challenge and even had the England game on too ... result. There were 2 members of staff that stood to me ... Eleanor from Food & Beverage, and Lizzie feom the Golf Shop & Halfway House. Both were easy to get on with, very down to earth, worked hard and made great efforts to get to know us too. Thank you both and thank you Hill Valley x

Very dirty and dusty hotel, my 2nd stay and was really hoping the 1st was just bad luck but on my return it seems I was the stupid one for staying again. Had to move rooms both visits. I think we were placed in a room that was never used or kept maybe for staff? I had to close the windows and wash my hands after as was covered in grime and cobwebs so clearly never closed or cleaned. Had to rinse the bath and sink before can be used. They need to improve the cleanliness and customer service. The restaurant is overpriced for poor quality its a real shame.
