Great friendly traditional fish and chips. As soon as we opened the doors we welcomed in. Didn’t get many photos as we were too busy enjoying the food.

As it was a Friday lunchtime, I decided to treat myself to a traditional fish and chip lunch, and Happy Days proved to be an excellent choice. One of the things I particularly liked was that I was able to book a table online in advance. As a solo traveller, I always appreciate knowing that I will have somewhere to sit, especially when visiting at a busy lunchtime on a Friday. I started with the whitebait, which was absolutely lovely. Whitebait is surprisingly difficult to find where I live, and when it is available the fish are often very small. These were a generous size, freshly cooked and full of flavour. It was one of the nicest portions of whitebait I have had in a long time. For my main course, I chose plaice and chips. The menu offered an impressive range of fish, including options such as rock and skate, and customers could choose to have their fish grilled rather than battered if preferred. I thought this was an excellent option for anyone looking for a lighter meal. The plaice and chips themselves were some of the best I have ever eaten. The fish was beautifully fresh, the batter was light, crisp and perfectly cooked, and the portion size was excellent. I particularly liked that the fish was served separately from the chips on the plate. The meal was accompanied by tartare sauce and ketchup, which was a nice touch. The restaurant itself was clean, comfortable and welcoming. I also had the pleasure of speaking with one of the owners, who told me that the family had been running the business for over 40 years. It was obvious how proud she was of both the restaurant and the quality of the food they serve. The customer service was excellent and made the visit even more enjoyable. I also thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes provided. The restaurant serves alcohol as well, offering plenty of choice for those wishing to enjoy a drink with their meal. History enthusiasts may also appreciate the restaurant's location in an area closely associated with Jack the Ripper, with local historical references displayed inside. Having eaten fish and chips in many coastal locations over the years, including places that are well known for them, I can honestly say that Happy Days more than holds its own. In fact, it may well be one of the best fish and chip meals I have had. I would not hesitate to return the next time I am in London.

Location was a bit hard to find from Yelp as it directed me a block down but Google will bring you to the restaurant. They have a small stand for take away, and a door for the dine in area. The food portions are pretty solid and we had ordered the large cod and chips and the special cod+peas+bread. Sadly they were out of Haddock when we went. Food portions are fairly big and pretty delicious. I think the large is enough for two people. Restrooms are downstairs for those with mobility issues. Service was great. Our waiter was excellent and friendly. Good atmosphere restaurant and waiter had very positive cheerful energy.
