About Orthwaite Pop-up Campsite
A peaceful, off-grid retreat for wild camping, Orthwaite Pop-up Campsite sits within sight of Over Water, a feeding ground for ospreys, in the northern Lake District. You'll wake to front-row views of the northern fells—Longlands, Lowthwaite, Great Sca Fell, Knott, Great Cockup, Little Cockup, Meal Fell and Binsey—perfectly positioned for bagging Wainwrights or pedalling the Skiddaw Loop and Lakes 100 cycle routes. The 'back o' Skiddaw', as locals call this quieter corner, remains blissfully crowd-free despite its excellent access to trails and peaks.
This is a working sheep farm with Herdwick and Swaledale flocks, so dogs are welcome but must stay on leads. The barn (which once featured on 'Top Gear') offers covered picnic tables for rainy spells, and raised firepits and small barbecues are permitted, with logs available on site. Facilities are simple—unisex portable toilets, a non-drinking water source and rubbish bins—but no showers or electricity, keeping things authentically rustic. Note that the lake itself, a Site of Special Scientific Interest owned by the National Trust, has no public access.

What visitors say
We recently stayed at Ewe Love Glamping Pods and overall had a great experience. The location is fantastic, with amazing views and easy access to local attractions and amenities. The fire pit and BBQ area were excellent and really added to the glamping experience, especially in the evenings. There are a few things worth noting. The pod is quite compact, so space is a little tight, particularly in the bathroom which is a bit of a squeeze. There is also no hob for cooking, so meal options are somewhat limited, and you’ll need to bring your own towels. That said, these were relatively minor drawbacks compared to the positives. The setting is beautiful, the facilities provided are good, and it’s a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.
