About Canvas Hamlet, Chirk
Tucked beside the Ceiriog river, Canvas Hamlet offers bell tent glamping in a genuinely lush north Wales setting. Each tent comes fully kitted with a made-up double futon bed (memory foam mattress, duvet, linens), LED lanterns, rugs, floor cushions and outdoor dining benches – single beds are added for larger groups, though you'll need to bring bedding for those. The communal facilities deserve a mention: a chillout tipi with rattan sofas, six hammocks strung between trees, a shared kitchen with cookers and fridges, plus an undercover dining tent.
The site partners with an activity centre in Llangollen (15 minutes away) for rafting, gorge walking, kayaking and rock climbing, while four walking routes leave straight from the grounds. Kids have swings, football goals and a volleyball net to keep them busy. Some guests note the composting toilets take a little adjusting to, but the riverside peace and ready-made adventure options more than compensate.

What visitors say
We stayed at Lady Margaret’s Park Club Campsite in Chirk, booked through the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and found it to be a very clean, well-organised and secure woodland site. It’s well located for exploring the area, particularly with the canal and Chirk Viaduct nearby. Arrival is smooth with ANPR entry, and the check-in process allows you to choose your own pitch—once you’ve picked one, you simply text the site with your pitch number, which worked very well. All pitches are flat gravel, making setup straightforward, and they are well spaced, giving a quiet and relaxed feel, especially at night. The facilities are excellent—large, clean and very warm, with good showers that stay on rather than push-button timers. There’s a good playground for children, and the site feels very safe and well managed. The on-site shop is limited to basic essentials, and there are no social facilities such as a pub or café, so it’s more of a self-contained site. Mobile signal was good throughout our stay. It’s a great base for cycling and walking, with easy access onto the canal—ideal for trips towards Chirk or up to Trevor, where there are more amenities. Overall, it’s a high-standard, reliable site and we would definitely return.
