Stanley Lodge Farmhouse - Ivy Cottage

Photo: Tollets TalesAndTrails

Ivy Cottage sits within the courtyard of Stanley Lodge Farmhouse, a few miles inland from Morecambe Bay. The surrounding landscape is open farmland and countryside; the village of Cockerham has a pub within a mile, and Lancaster itself lies a short drive away. The Wyre area offers walking routes across fields and along the coast, with birdwatching and big skies as the main draw.

The cottage is a single ground-floor space. A combined living and dining area opens onto a kitchen fitted with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher and fridge; there is a double bedroom (4ft 6in bed) and a shower room with cubicle. A patio with garden furniture sits outside. One car can park on site. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included; no smoking.

This works well for a couple wanting a quiet retreat within reach of the coast and countryside. Lancaster's castle and independent shops are accessible if you want to venture to town.

Well placed B&B for access to Lancaster university. Room was clean and well presented. Ensuite was all new and well done. TV was wall mounted but when in bed very small. Teas and coffees good quality, milk was fresh milk but each rooms milk was in a fridge on the landing which when I wanted a cuppa going out on the landing in my boxers wasn't practical. The quality of the breakfast was the winner for me. Excellently cooked and served piping hot. Parking was excellent off road parking next to B&B. Felt like I was on a good episode of four in the bed.

So. This place was very nice...it just didn't feel like it could be called a "Farmhouse" because it is located right behind a VERY LOUD and BUSY road! It DID quiet down after 11 but traffic picked up again around 6. We had the room with 2 twin beds, and although cute, felt a bit like a teen girl's room (mostly because of the bedding). There was nowhere to put your luggage unfortunately and nowhere to rest a flat or curling iron. Bathroom was really nice! Stephen (the host) was extremely kind and even let me play his piano! Stephen made a nice hot breakfast for us and was extremely accommodating! If you see decide to stay here, just bring your earplugs and you'll love it!!!

A most beautiful little b and b the owners were really friendly and welcoming. The room was immaculate with a lovely en suite and fresh milk in your room. The cooked breakfast was brilliant also great value for money.

This place is an absolute diamond of a b&b, the location is beautiful. I had a lovely morning walk down by the canal in the morning. The owners are wonderfully nice and accommodating, they put our motorcycle round the back and put their van behind it which made me at ease. Lovely rooms and bathrooms finished to a high standard, this place really is a gem. As for breakfast in the morning, just the best, the plate was hot when it came out and the food was nice and hot until I'd finished my meal. Price is spot on and the customer gets excellent deal. So glad we found this place and we are staying again on our way back from Scotland.
