About Grassington House

Grassington House stands on the cobbled square in the middle of Grassington, the largest village in Upper Wharfedale and the natural base for that side of the National Park. The building is Georgian, set slightly back behind railings, and has been run as a small hotel and restaurant for a number of years. Everything in the village — pubs, shops, the folk museum, the bus stop for Malham and Buckden — is within a couple of minutes' walk.

Bedrooms are individually designed and vary considerably in size, from compact doubles under the eaves to larger suites at the front with views over the square. Decor is contemporary without stripping out the period detail, and rooms come with good bathrooms, tea trays and comfortable beds. Because the building is old, some rooms are reached by stairs only and floor plans are irregular, so it is worth reading the descriptions before booking.

The restaurant holds two AA rosettes and is the focus of the business, with seasonal menus built around local suppliers and produce; there is a bar and a terrace for lighter meals and drinks in warmer weather. Breakfast is cooked to order and included in the rate. The kitchen is popular with non-residents, which gives the ground floor a busier feel than a small hotel might otherwise have.

It suits walkers and couples who want to be able to leave the car and step straight onto the Dales Way, and it is well placed for Kilnsey Crag, Burnsall, Linton Falls and the drive up to Kettlewell. Grassington gets busy in summer and during its Dickensian weekends in December, so book ahead. Parking is on the street or in the village car park rather than on site.

As others have said one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. The Roast beef melted in your mouth. Service excellent too. Should have shared a pudding but they all looked so good we had to have one each. Will tell everybody they must go.

Would absolutely recommend this place. We had a lovely overnight stay. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The whole place - cosy and relaxing. We dined in the evening too, I have several intolerances including needing to be gluten, lactose and soy free and the chef couldn't have been better, more than one choice available for me and possibly one of the best 3 course meals I've had in a long time!! The french martini was to die for too! Thankyou everyone at Grassington house 🥰

Probably one of the best Sunday dinners we have ever had.We have been fortunate to eat in some lovely establishments too so praise indeed! We received excellent service from all the staff and looking forward to eating there again on Friday. The building is tastefully furnished and centrally located in the market square, perfect for exploring the town and surrounding area. Next time we will stay here!

Stayed for a couple of nights over New Year as a treat. Everything about this place is fantastic, food, rooms and staff. We had the Roast Beef on the first night which was off the charts. Pheasant with Venison Rag pudding was just as good as was the homemade black pudding.Great value for money as well. The staff here are so good at what they do and so friendly. The bar is great as well with excellent cask ales at a reasonable price. Wine is good value as well. These independent places need all the help they can get at the moment as they have to work incredibly hard to stand still. My wife and I would like to thank you for making our stay so special. We'll be back soon. Thanks again
