About Stow House
Stow House is a Victorian vicarage on the edge of Aysgarth, converted into a small bed and breakfast and run by its owners rather than by staff. There are seven bedrooms in total, which keeps things personal — guests tend to end up in the drawing room together over a drink before heading out to eat. The house sits in its own grounds with views down Wensleydale, and Aysgarth Falls are within walking distance.
The rooms are the reason most people book. Each has a name and a character of its own, and the design is playful rather than country-house traditional: bold wallpapers, vintage finds, cast-iron baths in several rooms and underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Sizes and prices vary quite a lot, from a smaller double to larger rooms with seating areas and the best of the valley views. Dogs are welcome in five of the seven.
Breakfast is included and made in-house, with homemade bread and granola, freshly squeezed juice and cooked dishes to order. In the early evening the owners serve classic cocktails in the drawing room at a fixed price, and there is an honesty bar for anything else. Dinner is not served, but the Aysgarth Falls Hotel is a few hundred yards down the road and there are good pubs in the surrounding villages.
It suits couples and walkers who want somewhere characterful and sociable rather than anonymous, and it is a strong base for the middle of Wensleydale — the falls, Bolton Castle, Castle Bolton village, Hawes and the Buttertubs Pass are all close. The house is not suited to large groups or young children, and with only seven rooms it books out well in advance for spring and summer weekends.

We had a lovely stay here, the host was a fabulous, welcoming and professional lady. The property itself was very tastefully presented with wonderful drawing room, lounge area with honesty bar and breakfasting room. The bedrooms were well appointed. It was in a great location for exploring locally and had nice grounds and a decent car park.

Recently stayed at Stow House on our trip to the Dales and can’t recommend it highly enough! Sarah the host is lovely, very accommodating and helpful too and is able to provide great recommendations on the area including the best spots for food. The rooms themselves are spot on, very spacious and comfortable it’s a great place to relax in. Absolutely loved the breakfast too! Place your order the night before and there’s no better start to the day than the home cooked breakfast on offer here 😁 Thanks again to Sarah for being a brilliant host, you’ve got a really great spot in a lovely location!

Loved our stay.. we stayed in Kez and the room was lovely. Big in size, super comfy bed and amazing views. Breakfast and service 5* Value for money 5* Rooms 5* Location and walks 5* HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Apologies no photos of hotel but you can see all on the website.

A wonderful stay from start to finish. The rooms are beautiful, very stylish and so well considered. The breakfast is wonderful , make sure you try the granola! A beautiful location with some stunning scenery within walking distance. It was in equal part relaxing and invigorating and I honestly could have stayed another week. We thank you for a lovely stay.
