The Traddock

Not cheap but on balance worth the money. Staff are polite and professional, warm and friendly. The kitchen has great baking skills... can a homemade crumpet and mushroom parfait have the " wow " factor ? Yep , very very good. Home baked bread with treacle...it really could have been a meal in itself with that parfait.... breakfast superb... lovely lady on reception...take a bow everyone

We stayed at this wonderful lodging for two days. The village of Austwick is so beautiful, with its clear air and lovely sky. The Traddock Hotel is fantastic(house&garden). The homemade breakfast is the best of the best. Further, the staff have a family-like atmosphere, are very kind, and generous. It was a beautiful place that I definitely want to visit again. We stayed in June for some overdue rest and relaxation. We picked The Traddock as we have stayed in Austwick in the past and know the area well. This is a lovely country house hotel, with staff who are friendly, welcoming and where nothing is too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the garden. We opted for bed and breakfast but dined in the brasserie restaurant twice. The restaurant is charming with white linen table cloths and candlelight. The food was nice but the menu was limited. We preferred the starters over the mains. There was no option for additional sides and there was a limited amount of vegetables with the mains, more of a decorative accompaniment. All the mains came with "confit potatoes" which should have been delicious but were not confit in any shape or form, this prompted me to Google confit potatoes as I thought I must have been mistaken. We were served halved small potatoes with the skins on (my husband's pet hate) which had been flashed in a pan to give a little colour but they weren't tender and were quite bitter. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice of cooked options and a lovely buffet style assortment of fruits, yogurt and cereals. So would we stay again? Definitely and would recommend it as the hotel is so welcoming and relaxing, situated in a beautiful village with breathtaking views at every turn and which is ideally placed for exploring the countryside and many walks nearby. We would opt for bed and breakfast again and decide whether to eat in the hotel based on the menu at the time as there is also a great pub in the village serving delicious food with a French twist and its own patisserie bakery.

Can we give them 6 or 7 stars?? We have stayed in many places over the years and The Traddock sits at or near the top of that list. Beautiful, well-kept, charming older building, comfortable, homey spaces throughout. Our room, the Ribblehead, was just lovely, with high ceilings, nice view, comfortable couch. The staff were genuinely friendly and seem to actually like working there. The Traddock is luxurious without being pretentious. Food was DELICIOUS! Easy access to all this area of Yorkshire has to offer. Sure hope we'll make it back one day!
