I stayed for one night for work in this lovely hotel. I had a very friendly welcome when I arrived, was recommended a food outlet and made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. The room was very clean and comfortable with good amenities. I slept very well and enjoyed my breakfast. All the other guests were smiley and friendly and the lady who served me in the morning was very chatty and engaging. I liked the slightly sloping floors and the whole ambience of the place. Lots of free parking in the car park which was a win. I'll definitely be back.

What a great place to stay in this lovely market town. We stayed for two nights in a small double room which at £140 including breakfast was a steal. There was an additional cleaning charge of £30 as we had our dog with us by that was made very clear from the start. The hotel is in the middle of Axminster and the room was well equipped with everything looking very new. The bathroom was great with a large powerful shower. The public areas on the ground floor are full of character and a great place to dine and have a drink. Best of all every single member of staff was helpful engaging and provided every we needed in a friendly and professional way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have no hesitation in recommending it.

We stayed at the George for two nights - I'd generally give the hotel a 4/5 - service was good, staff were helpful and the rooms were very clean. I'd drop half a mark due to noise - the hotel is old and listed however the windows in our room were single pane - as the hotel is on the middle on a junction we did hear a lot of traffic - it dies down by about midnight but the sound proofing could be better - a set of earplugs as a complimentary amenity would be enough. Another half mark would be dropped for the breakfast - it is included with the room rate but could have been a little bit more inspired - the menu includes a picture of pancakes and fruit compote for instance but the menu is limited to cook breakfast or cereals. Worth a stay if you're in the area and want a base to visit the coast.

I am absolutely happy to provide an 5* review for the George Hotel, Axminster. Every aspect and second of my one night stay was wonderful. The minute I walked in through the door I was greeted with a warm, friendly welcome. Courteous, polite, charming and professional. An extensive menu, fine wines, and a wide range of local, national and international alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages on offer from a well stocked bar. Always service with a smile. As for the room, I was in room 101 on this occasion and it was so comfortable, warm and splendid. I can tell no expense has been spared when it comes to providing the best service and accommodation possible, and at such a reasonable rate. I will be returning very soon indeed. (Another visit) Big salute to the chef at the George Hotel in Axminster tonight (Halloween). Due to a disco tonight, dinner service was shortened considerably, yet the George was extremely busy with dinner orders, including their "Just Eat" delivery service. On such an evening, you'd imagine a full compliment of chefs, etc. However, one man was doing everything himself in the kitchen, cooking wise anyway. I had a rare rump steak, with mushrooms, chunky chips, and salad. It was cooked to perfection, and absolutely delicious. Even I had to admit defeat at the end and leave a few chips. Huge respect to the chef! I believe his name is Mike. I can guarantee that no food I was served with went anywhere near a microwave! Cooked to absolute perfection, and great value for money. As for the FOH/waiting staff (in this case, the general managers), also absolute attention to detail and delivering a swift and efficient service. Thank you so much. This made the whole dining experience absolutely amazing. There simply are no faults to be found at The George Hotel, Axminster. Anyone who finds fault are simply just habitual complainers. Being regular viewers of TV shows regarding the hospitality industry does not make you a critic. If you don't like the service you receive from amazing independently managed/run local hotels like the George in Axminster, then may I recommend somewhere like the Hilton, or the Ritz? Oh but wait, you won't go there, because you can't afford it. #TeamGeorgeHotelAxminster 10/10. I'll be back, and recommending you to others. Thank you everybody at the George Hotel in Axminster. You're the best! See you all again soon! Best wishes, Barnesy 😊 Instagram: haunted.bartender
