Camping in Bala

3 campsites, glamping sites and caravan parks

Bala is one of the best-served small towns in Wales for camping and touring, thanks largely to Llyn Tegid itself: several sites sit directly on the lake shore, with pitches only a few steps from the water and, at some, private access for swimming, fishing or launching a canoe straight from the grass. This makes the area a natural draw for families and watersports enthusiasts who want to wake up by the lake rather than drive to it each morning, and pitches with private lake frontage are consequently among the first to sell out over the summer.

Beyond the lakeside sites, well-established touring parks and Club sites are dotted around the southern end of the lake and along the approach roads into town, offering the fuller range of hard-standing pitches, electric hook-ups and modern shower blocks expected by caravanners and motorhome owners, generally within a short walk or drive of Bala's High Street. Facilities across the area typically include well-stocked on-site shops, laundry rooms and dog-walking areas, reflecting the town's popularity with walkers and their four-legged companions, and several sites now offer glamping options such as shepherd's huts and safari tents alongside traditional touring and camping pitches for those without their own kit.

Because pitches here fill quickly for the whole of the summer season and around Bala's agricultural show, and several sites cap or close entirely over winter, it is worth booking as far ahead as possible, particularly for anything with a lakeside outlook or electric hook-up.
