About Gallows Hill
Perched above Teesdale with fabulous views over the surrounding hills, Gallows Hill is a small, welcoming site just five minutes from Barnard Castle. Direct access from the A66 makes it easy to find, while the location puts you right on the doorstep of the North Pennines National Landscape and Yorkshire Dales National Park—perfect for walkers, cyclists and climbers seeking scenic adventures. Historic attractions are close by, as are the spectacular shows at Kynren and Durham city centre.
Back at camp, facilities are simple but well-kept: separate toilets and showers cleaned regularly, a small play area for kids, and free wifi. Campfires are allowed, so stock up on supplies in Barnard Castle (castle, shops, takeaways all there) and settle in for a cosy evening under the stars. The terrain can be a little uneven with gravel and loose mud in places, but the warm welcome and those Teesdale views more than make up for it.
