What visitors say
From the moment we arrived, the experience was amazing. The atmosphere is so welcoming and genuinely family-friendly, which immediately sets this pub apart. I’m a chef, so I’ll be the first to admit I usually find faults when eating out — it’s hard to switch that part of my brain off — but I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing here. I had the braised beef, and it was some of the best I’ve ever tasted: beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and clearly made with real care. The Gate Hangs High is doing everything right — fantastic food, a great atmosphere, and a place you actually want to come back to. Highly recommended.

As a French person who grew up by the sea and who has lived in the UK for over 15 years, the cod roast was hands down the best fish I’ve had in the UK. It was fresh and cooked to perfection. The crème anglaise was a delicious success. The atmosphere was lovely and family friendly on a grey January Sunday. Great service from the front house team. Highly recommend!

Absolute Gem of a place in every way. We came from Nottingham in the campervan to visit Chipping Norton for a special family occasion, and came across here by chance looking for somewhere to stay nearby overnight. Wow 🤩 we were not disappointed! We ate a beautiful meal, and the staff, including the chef were so attentive! Amazing with the kids and location is stunning. The rib of beef was the best I’ve ever tasted and I’ve had many. Thankyou for making a precious occasion even more special. Thanks team ❤️ we’ll be back.

Stayed here for a night in our camper van for £22 (inc electric) clean facilities and drinking water available. The pub was great, plenty choice of drinks. Beautiful fire, friendly staff and locals. We can recommend the loaded fries! Would stop here again.
