Herdwick

Bassetlaw's quiet villages and rolling countryside draw those after genuine seclusion. Herdwick is a shepherd's hut on an adults-only site in Grove, a few miles from Retford—close enough to reach the market town's independent shops and cafes, far enough to feel properly remote. The River Idle runs nearby for riverside walks, and Sherwood Forest's ancient woodlands are within reach for more serious hiking.

The hut itself is compact but complete. A ground-floor open plan combines living space, dining area and kitchen with an induction hob, microwave and fridge; the bedroom has a double bed, and there's a shower room with heated towel rail. Steps lead up to a decked balcony overlooking a garden area with outdoor furniture and a canopy, where a wood burner and gas cooker sit ready. The private hot tub for two overlooks the grounds. Wifi and heating are included, along with bed linen and towels; there's parking for two cars and a welcome pack on arrival.

Note that access involves six steps to the entrance, and the site is for adults only. No smoking throughout.
