Benone Tourist Complex

Tent, caravan and motorhome campsite near Benone with showers, close to a beach and dunes.

About Benone Tourist Complex

Benone Tourist Complex takes tents, caravans and motorhomes on pitches with access to showers. The site sits near Benone, on the north coast of County Londonderry, within reach of Benone Strand—a long sandy beach backed by dunes that runs for several miles along the shore.

The beach is the main draw here: it is walkable from the site and popular for swimming, walking and water sports. The dunes behind it are part of a designated conservation area. Inland, the Sperrin Mountains lie within driving distance, and the towns of Coleraine and Limavady are nearby for shops and supplies.

We stayed for two nights in our campervan. On arrival it was busy with children playing and riding bikes around...to be expected as its a family site. But Sunday afternoon...most had left...and only 10 of 80 pitches occupied...so was very quiet. The toilet/shower block was good..and all working and clean. I imagine when the site is busy, it may be difficult to keep on top of cleaning...with 4 female and 4 male showers. But the showers were good and inclusive of pitch fee. The beach access is easy, with a boardwalk through the dunes.. beach was lovely and very long...! We didn't use the sports facilities...golf..swimming etc so can't comment on them, but we had a good stay.

Pros Swimming pool good for kids with lifeguards on duty Golf course good also. However these are all additional charges with its own staff so standard should be high. Lots of space for children to play around the park. Location- right beside the sea Cons The caravan site needs a freshen up. Toilet blocks are smelly and dirty and would need cleaned multiple times a day for size of site which clearly isn't happening. This was very disappointing and would put a lot of people off. Having your shower directly opposite a urinal and beside the toilet is not a nice experience. Rubbish disposal area poorly maintained with no appropriate signage for waste disposal. Toilet waste area for caravanners needs cleaned. Most sites have a short hose attached to clean area but not the case. Remnants of toilet paper around the area. Also, hand gel unit remained empty- this is a basic at most sites so people can clean their hands after. The barrier to allow cars in and out is meant to pick up registration but is very inconsistent. Boardwalk needs fixed and replaced- lack of general maintenance has led to this point it seems. The site needs a little more presence from staff to ensure dog mess and any mis behaviour from children is addressed. Watched kids mucking about with the car barrier without any intervention. Possibly causing previously mentioned car registration issues? Wifi non existent and with poor phone signal it's needed. These aren't big things but from being at many sites throughout Northern Ireland, Scotland and England is the basic expectation. Potential to be a great site

We visited late June and it was quiet, which made a big difference as most of the hard grass pitches for vans were free. WiFi is only available at the main reception. Opening hours could be stretched as we needed advice early morning but office doesn't open til 9am. Kids pool currently under refurbishment so it's a building site there. Tbh, the main building needs a face-lift. It's tired and dated and feels like a partially closed, 80s institution. Waves cafe was closed the Mon and Tues so no warm food or vibes to be had! However, 4 out of 5 staff we encountered were all wonderful. Toilets and shower blocks are basic but grand. Hairdryer costing 20p is a bit prehistoric these days but 🤷🏼‍♀️. Views of mountains and easiness of beach access are the highlights here .

Aur Sta

Stayed in the G cabin for couple nights. Its decent size cabin, loads of room inside, and decking outside is really spaciuos. Inside is tidy well looked after, all furniture is in good condition. There is hot water inside, but no shower (showers are outside 10meters away for cabin - free). Make sure to get your bedding sheets and pillows. There is not cutlery and kitchen utensils. Electric kettle, microwave and fridge is here. Best is that beach is 2minutes away!!! Will come back next year.
