What visitors say
On a sunny day a stroll around these extensive ruins is an absolute must. The towering stacks of flint and stone give a tantalising glimpse of what life would have looked like here, and there is just enough on the information boards to make sense of what you are looking at. Bring a picnic with you from the nearby high street, put a blanket out on the grass and you will be hard pressed to find a better way to spend a couple of lazy weekend hours. And all of that for free, a well deserved five stars here.

Free entry to the palace ruins and museum run by English Heritage, donations welcomed but not compulsory. Nice to see local history within a short walk from the Bishops Waltham square. Small carpark on site, but a five minute walk from the main carpark in the village (Also free on Sundays)

Even though the palace is a ruin there's still a lot to explore here, and the plaques that are around the site are informative enough to paint a nice picture of how the palace operated. It's a great little stop especially for families as it's free to enter, there's a great open space in the middle for picnics and lots for children to climb! Unfortunately the museum is only open from May so we didn't get to see inside.
