About The Old Airfield Campsite

Tucked into the New Forest fringe near Burley, The Old Airfield offers a relaxed, back-to-basics escape with space for dogs, campfires and over 200 non-electric pitches spread across former airfield grounds. The on-site hub wins praise for wood-fired pizzas, proper coffee and fresh pastries, while those booking bell tents will find folding beds and clean shower blocks waiting. It's a genuine haven for walkers and cyclists, with forest trails and wildlife on the doorstep and plenty of activities—from kayaking to climbing—within easy reach.

Some visitors note that facilities can feel stretched at busy times and communication around fire bans isn't always clear, but the setting and easygoing atmosphere more than compensate. Whether you're wild camping under the stars or arriving by bike, it's a solid, unpretentious base for exploring Hampshire's quieter corners.

We were asked to leave a review and would be happy to leave a review, and after our stay we genuinely wanted to. We had pizza from the truck last night and it was absolutely lovely — definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Even though it was really busy, the pizza staff did everything they could to fit us in and were so accommodating and friendly the whole evening. dancing with the kids, and really made our family feel involved and comfortable which created such a lovely atmosphere around the whole site, big thank you to them! . We ended up spending the night roasting marshmallows, eating pizza and just enjoying everything camping should be about. All the staff we spoke to throughout our stay were incredibly helpful and welcoming, even the general staff walking around collecting pizza boxes and checking on people were lovely . The toilets were also very clean and well looked after which makes such a difference when camping we’ve been to some on the opposite end of that and it was horrible. If I could suggest any improvements, it would probably just be having a few more toilets around the site as they can feel a little sparse at busy times. It would also be nice to have a few more pastry options in the mornings or more stock of the existing ones as they’d sold out when we arrived. Maybe a couple more kid-friendly activities on site could also make it even better for families. Along with this another shower block as the existing one was quite a track for us. Overall though we had a really nice stay and would definitely come back. Such a friendly atmosphere and you can tell the staff work really hard to make everyone feel welcome.

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently and overall had a really nice time. The atmosphere around the campsite was lovely in the evenings and it felt very relaxed and friendly. Most of the staff we came across were helpful and approachable and the site itself was kept pretty clean considering how busy it was. The pizza area was especially busy when we went over but the pizza staff still made time for everyone and even let us do a half-and-half pizza which was appreciated as we couldn’t decide what to get. They made us feel like it was no bother at all and were really smiley and friendly despite how hectic it was. Little things like that make a difference when places are busy. There were a couple of things that could be improved. When we first used the toilet facilities they were a bit dirty, but to be fair once it was mentioned staff dealt with it quite quickly which we appreciated. It would also be helpful if there was more information available about local things to do nearby, places to eat, walks, beaches etc as unless you already know the area there wasn’t loads of guidance on site. Overall though we still had a really enjoyable stay. The atmosphere was friendly, the evenings were lovely and the staff seemed to genuinely care about making sure people had a good time. Would definitely consider coming back again.

This was our first time at this campsite. Please note showers and toilets are appear online as if they’re a block, they are portals and the showers are a temporary block. Showers are a bit gross as they flood and toilets were smelly. On entrance we received some cold customer service sadly. We also weren’t informed that the pizzas sold out, just to order soon as they shut at 9pm, this really should be communicated better. The pizza van can apparently only make 10 pizzas an hour…as we missed pizzas on the first night and had to go out for food, we pre ordered for the next night. However it was a shame to realise the pizza bases were pre bought with tomato sauce on already and it was just toppings they added (unsure why can only make 10 in an hour in this case). But either way they weren’t tasty and not worth the price so wouldn’t recommend the pizza. Cocktails were also pricey for the size given. Service wasn’t the friendliest in our experience. It was a shame as we had high hopes from the reviews but I think this campsite needs an improvement.

This was our 2nd time camping here. It's pretty basic and probably not ideal for any longer than 3/4 nights but we love it. Two families with 7yo kids. Went mid week in May half term and lots of space for them to ride their bikes and still able to keep an eye on them. Really friendly welcome from Danny who checked in on us a couple of times. Good pizzas for first night dinner and the little bar area had a good vibe with music but not too loud. I was nervous about the compost toilets but they aren't actually too bad and didn't smell as bad as I thought they would. The showers are great and hot all day which is a bonus. Saw them getting cleaned regularly. Great location for walks in the forest and the kids loved the ponies coming up to the edge of the site. I've knocked it down a star as we got some "cocktails" from the bar. Awful! Small measure of vodka mixed with the worst cartoon of fruit juice. I appreciate they are in a field and not a fully equipped bar, but they were £10 each!!! Not worth it and could barely drink it. It's basic, but camping is. Our kids had a brilliant time, made some friends and are already asking when we can go back.
