We headed to the John Bull rock factory on a Thursday morning during the school holidays and the first tour of the day only had 3 families on it including us. The lady said the first tour was often quieter so if you're concerned about crowds definitely go for that slot. We paid the extra to do the rock rolling and making a lolly which our 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed. For a family of 3 plus the extras the total came to about £23 which isn't bad for a school holiday activity. There's a cafe and a soft play attached which we steered our son around because it was absolutely boiling outside! But it looked like fun and was tidy / clean. Some areas looked a little dated and the total experience only lasted about 45 mins but the gift shop is exceptional and staff all lovely.

Go on the factory tour and see how rock, sweets and biscuits are made. Make sure you pay the extra £2 a person to roll your own rock (it gets super competitive!). Plenty of free tasters as you walk around (sweets and biscuits). Bargains to be had in the factory shop.

Nice place to take the kids however when we went there where to many people you couldn't here the guide talking and we couldn't see .so you mist information. Maybe the guide should have a mic so we could here . But got to make well roll a stick of rock with your initial inside.and also the kids made a lolly ..but overall a good place advance booking required

What a lovely old fashioned day out. We just did the factory tour and it was so lovely . Staff were very kind , funny and just chatted to us as we went round . It’s a fascinating place and reasonably priced . I took my two daughters aged 8 and 10 and they just loved it . Takes around an hour and the activities are a simple yes , cheap to do and all part of it . Well worth a visit , I hope it never changes as it’s so nostalgic hopefully I’ll take my grand kids one day too .
