A straightforward budget stop on Horse Street, Bristol, suited to travellers who want free parking and a central base without frills.
About The Portcullis Hotel
The Portcullis Hotel suits visitors after a no-nonsense base for exploring Bristol rather than a destination in itself - drivers passing through, weekend sightseers or anyone who values free on-site parking over polish will get the most out of a stay here. It sits on Horse Street, within reach of the city's pubs, restaurants and attractions on foot.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in-room and free WiFi throughout. Guests can eat on-site at the restaurant, which also serves breakfast, or head to the bar and outdoor seating area in the garden. Practical touches include 24 hour reception and luggage storage, useful for early arrivals or late departures.
Beyond the hotel, the surrounding area has plenty to fill a stay: pubs and bars, further restaurants, entertainment venues, a golf course and watersports are all nearby, alongside walking routes for those who'd rather explore on foot. It's a functional choice for a Bristol trip built around what's outside the door rather than what's inside it.

What guests say
The photos do not represent what you find... grotty pub, no service, no breakfast, it's rough, cheap-skate accommodation on a good hotel room rate... my advise is to look elsewhere.

Not bad but not great. The rooms initially looked nice. The bed is comfy and provides nice tea/coffee. The bad side was the bathroom. Loads of gunk under the sink hole and dirt up the walls and on the ceiling. The price of the drinks at the bar was horrendous. £10.90 for a single vodka and coke and single rum and coke. One of the staff was nice and friendly but decided to sit with us whilst we were having a drink which after a long day of driving we wanted to just chill together but he was friendly and kind so we didn’t mind too much. I would return but not at £72 per night

stayed there a little while ago and loved it...I received vip like treatment and the atmosphere was second to none. the room was spotless and the nightlife there was electric with music to suit all tastes. I definitely would recommend it to friends and family.

Room was very dusty and cleanliness was below expectations. Bedding and towels were great, but that's about it. The en-suite had an unpleasant smell, like stale water. There was rubbish in the waste bin from the previous guest/cleaner. After cleaning the remote down from the thick layer of dust, we discovered that it didn't even due to corroded batteries. So no TV. We didn't realise it was a pub/nightclub venue, so bring a quality speaker if you're staying over a weekend!
