About Newlands Farm
Pining for a Peak District break that's quiet and without all the extra frills? Look no further than Newlands Farm, tucked into a rural patch 15 minutes' drive from Bakewell. This is proper back-to-basics camping – non-electric grass pitches, a portable toilet, running water for washing up – but the real draw is the location. Excellent hikes are everywhere: Bradwell Edge is five minutes away, Monsal Head ten, Mam Tor and Castleton fifteen, Kinder Scout twenty. A footpath from the site delivers you to the local pub in five minutes on foot, while Tideswell and Bradwell villages (both five minutes' drive) have shops, bakeries and fish and chips.
During lambing season, usually May to June, families can arrange for kids to feed and pet the resident Cade lambs – a lovely touch. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (maximum two per pitch), though keep them under control around livestock. It can feel fairly no-frills if you're after creature comforts, but for walkers and dog owners seeking peace, spectacular scenery and a proper countryside base, Newlands Farm delivers.
