About Gurt Yurts

Tucked into a private corner of a working farm in the Mendip Hills, Gurt Yurts offers proper seclusion without total isolation. The spacious yurts sit in mature woodland that screens you from view for much of the year, sharing the site with resident rescue chickens and passing wildlife – deer, foxes, owls and the occasional shy badger. Each yurt comes with a brass bed, woodburning stove, firepit and twinkling lanterns, plus your own private wash house with hot shower and eco-friendly compost toilet.

While it feels wonderfully remote, civilisation isn't far. Several pubs lie within walking distance, and you can hike to Cheddar in about ninety minutes for shops, tearooms and gorge-gawping. The site's commitment to wildlife and renewable energy adds an eco-friendly edge, and with cycle hire available and excellent walking from the doorstep, you can genuinely leave the car behind. Perfect for families or couples wanting cosy comfort in proper countryside.

What visitors say

What a perfect little oasis! We stopped here overnight on a backpacking trip, and it was absolutely perfect for us. Quiet, peaceful, out of the way (but still within walking distance of the local pub!), and not to mention the absolutely stunning views across the Bristol channel! The wash house was a much appreciated sight after a long day's walking in the hot sun (though it would be nice to have a curtain or something in the showers to stop water splashing on your clothes). Tim was a wonderful host too. Friendly, informative, and kindhearted to the end, it's clear he takes pride in The Batch. We will absolutely be returning here the next time we hike out this way!

Stayed for the weekend and very much enjoyed it. The field was nice and peaceful, the scenery is quite something to look at, and Tim, the owner, is a great and helpful guy. I had problems setting up my tent, Tim helped with it and that made my stay even better. The new facilities are a big plus too, I'm already looking forward to my next stay at this campsite.

Lovely little campsite with a great view and an extremely helpful host Tim who was always easier to share some local knowledge. Warm showers, a fridge and well located near cheddar, caves and climbing spots
