Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway

Update based on the railways response below: I’m not quite sure that whoever responded to my review understands the customer experience. It certainly has not been responded to in their response. A railway that operates a train with unwashed windows is really not focussed on providing a great day out because looking out of them at the passing countryside is part of that experience. It’s no good just washing all the windows on the platform side. The other side need doing too. I know it was a topic of conversation amongst other passengers but whether they took the time to also comment is another matter. I hope they did. Original review: An otherwise good day out at the diesel gala. The staff volunteers were amazing and kept everything to order. A very busy day with lots of visitors which can make things feel slightly cramped with limited room for manoeuvre on the tiny platform at Chinnor. Some major improvements since my last visit a few years ago. Bigger toilets, a larger area for catering (which I think was inevitable, even a few years ago). The timetable was largely kept to time despite the visiting class 26 failing while stabled at Princes Risborough which was a disappointment. Now for the only real downside of the day and I think I may have mentioned it before, somewhere… The state of the carriage windows! Quite a few of the eastward looking windows along the train were filthy and should have been cleaned. All those on the westward (platform) side were generally fine. Disappointing really, hence only 3 stars.

Lovely little railway, with massive trains! Sadly the steam train gave up so didn't get to ride that but went on the diesel which was cool. There's a cute little cafe truck with good priced drinks and food and yummy looking cake. All the workers are friendly and helpful, if you like trains then go here. They do a cream tea on the train too, which we didn't do but it looked lush so that's the next trip.

Really enjoyed myself at the spring diesel gala on Saturday 5th April. Very friendly staff and volunteers, trains were well run and busy with happy passengers. Beautiful scenery in the Chilterns. Highly recommend fir a day out.

This shall be historical heritage railway has been going for 34 years and has grown from strength to strength due to the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers running it. It runs both steam and diesel engines to appeal to all tastes with restored vintage rolling stock and they have rebuilt the long demolished station at Chinnor, rebuilt the platform at Princes Risborough where they have also restored the old signal box. They also run themed specials on their line including but not limited to Santa Specials, a murder Mystery trip and a Carol Singing Special. They have achieved amazing things and have ambitious plans for the future. Recommended!
