About Church Stretton Camp and Fish (Oaklands)

Tucked into 40 acres of Shropshire Hills meadows and woodland, Church Stretton Camp and Fish delivers exactly what its name promises – plus wild swimming, kayaking, and even a rifle range. The three well-stocked fishing lakes (carp over 20lbs, sturgeon, trout and more) draw keen anglers, while families spread out across lakeside, meadow or forest-floor pitches, many gravitating toward the play area or hiring electric quad bikes for the kids. Guests consistently praise the clean facilities and genuinely helpful owners, who actively encourage campfires – firepits are free, and competitively priced firewood is sold on site (bringing your own isn't allowed).

The shower blocks are spotless, though it's worth noting there's no hot water outside the shower cubicles themselves. Still, with heather-covered hills a short drive away in Carding Mill Valley and Church Stretton's pubs and restaurants ten minutes down the road, most campers find the rustic, spacious setup more than compensates – especially when the surrounding woodland trails and cycling routes call.

⭐☆☆☆☆ If I could give this campsite zero stars, I absolutely would. We chose this campsite specifically because the website stated that campfires were allowed. We understand that temporary fire restrictions may be necessary due to dry weather, but this should have been communicated before arrival or at check-in, not after guests had already settled in. Unfortunately, we misunderstood the instruction and later lit a fire in our fire pit. Instead of explaining the situation politely, the manager approached us in a very aggressive and confrontational manner. When we pointed out that the website advertises campfires as being allowed, he simply told us that if we didn’t like it, he would refund us and we could leave immediately at around 11 pm. What made the situation even more confusing was that other campers were having fires that same evening, and we have photos and videos showing this. The rules did not appear to be enforced consistently. This happened on my birthday, and what should have been a special evening was completely ruined by the way we were treated. We left feeling upset, unwelcome and very disappointed. The campsite itself may have potential, but customer service and the manager’s attitude were unacceptable. We would not return or recommend this campsite based on our experience. Update after the owner’s response: Thank you for your response. My review was never about the temporary fire ban itself. It was about the way the situation was handled and the manner in which I was spoken to. I appreciate the other gestures you mentioned, but they do not change my experience or the reason for my review. This review reflects my honest experience.

Lost Girl Adventures

Has to be one of my favourite places to camp! Absolutely love this place. I especially love camping in the woods, its so peaceful and im always visited by robins. So much wildlife here and the swaying of the tall trees and woken up by a beautiful bird song. I believe there are 2 fishing lakes one of them is for matches ( i think) i could be wrong and theres loads of fish in them ive seen them jumping out of the water and theres a wild swimming area as well. Its so beautiful to walk around theres so much to see and explore. Ive not done it myself but I believe you can hire fishing equipment and theres loads of things you can pay extra to do like hire quad bikes etc... The toilets are ok.... would be nice if there was a shower so I could stay longer, I normally just stay 2 nights. It gets particularly busy on bank holidays and weekends. The road leading up to the lake from reception is a bit pot holey and bumpy but as long as u go steady, its well worth it once reach the car park and its not that far. Chris the owner always comes around to check on u and ask if your ok, theres not much he wont do to help if needed. Highly recommend staying here.

Had the best time here, my son literally cried when we left as he had such a great time! Really felt like a mini holiday, will definitely be returning soon. So many activities for the kids and adults alike! Chilled vibe and Chris was super friendly & helpful! Thanks for an amazing time!

A wonderful site with so much for my tribe of small people to make memories. Night time forest treks, hide and seek in the woods, cricket in the meadow, swimming in the lake and a spot of paddling. Maybe even dust off my old fishing gear for our next visit and try and show them a spot of angling. Chris the host was charming and attentive, he regularly did the rounds on his quiet quad, checking in on everyone with a really friendly manner, he made us feel truly welcome. We had a brilliant bank holiday weekend thank you.
