Charlestown is a working fishing village on the north Cornwall coast, with the harbour itself a stone's throw away and the coastal path offering quick access to coves and beaches. The Old Gardens Cottage sits above the village—a converted granite barn with an unusual history. During the Second World War, local radio operator William Waters transformed it into a watchtower, adding portholes, railings and nautical fittings that give the place its distinctive character. The building now displays work by Cornish artist Angela Annesley, with pieces available to buy at a reduced rate.
Inside, the single bedroom sits upstairs beneath original low beams in the tower's upper section. The living space below is open-plan, with a kitchenette equipped for self-catering and a ground-floor bathroom with electric shower. The real draw is The Lookout—a wraparound balcony accessed either through a hatch from the bedroom or via an external spiral stair from the garden outside. It's the place to sit with morning coffee or watch the sunset over fields and sea. The garden itself is split into two lawned areas with seating and wide views; it's enclosed and suitable if you're bringing a dog, though pets do need supervising. Electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. No smoking indoors. The property sleeps two and is yours alone for the duration of your stay.
Walking distance downhill brings you to Pendeen Watch lighthouse. From there, Beach Cove is roughly ten minutes along a track, or continue fifteen minutes on the coast path to Portheras Cove. A pub sits within a mile. Note that the staircase is open-tread, the bedroom has sloped ceilings with restricted headroom, and the layout is not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties.
