Barn End Cottage is a stone conversion adjoining the owner's home in a quiet hamlet within the Peak District National Park. Two bedrooms and a bathroom sleep four; one has a king bed, the other two singles. Downstairs, the living room centres on a woodburner (logs provided to get you started), with Freesat and a DVD player for quieter evenings. The kitchen/dining room is equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave—and there's a washing machine and tumble dryer for practicalities. Ground source heat pump central heating keeps the cottage warm; Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels come as standard. Parking for two cars is on site, and an enclosed garden with furniture provides outdoor space.
Walking begins at the door. The Monsal Trail, Pennine Bridleway and Limestone Way all pass through or near the hamlet, making it a natural base for day hikes. Bakewell sits five miles away, as does Buxton itself. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are within driving distance, along with several National Trust properties and the Blue John Caves near Castleton. Cycle hire is available a mile away on the Monsal Trail. A shop stands 300 yards off; the nearest pub is a mile's walk. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge. No smoking inside.

We had a wonderful week at Barn End Cottage in June. The cottage is fully equipped with everything we needed, including the kitchen as we cooked our own meals every evening. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. What made it special, though, was the view from the living room and the outside space. The garden is beautiful, and the owners made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend staying here if you love walking, as there are lots of walks from the doorstep.
