What visitors say
By far our favourite campsite. The pitches are big, with the hedges making them pretty private, the facilities are good and kept clean and stocked with loo roll, soap and shampoo! The shop has everything you might have forgotten, the pizzas by Tom were delicious (and quick!) and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Of course the location is 10/10...Hope Cove continues to be gorgeous and the walk down to the beach is lovely too (we were there in the May heatwave, the walk back up the hill didn't go down well with the children - pack some snacks and water!) We have stayed 6 times and of course will be back. Thank you, Karrageen!

Excellent campsite run by a friendly and helpful team. You can pre-order very good pastries and coffee for the morning, they've got a shop with homemade meals, good selection of wine and beer. You can also pre-order pizza. Smart, clean facilities (good quality soap is a nice touch). Very peaceful location only a mile from Hope Cove. Plenty of space for the kids to run around and play. Superb views from the top field.

Great pitches. Drinking water taps across the site. Never a queue for the showers or toilets which are all within buildings and cleaned daily. 20p for hot water/showers (maybe 2 mins) which you can pause. Family shower room with a loo, large shower, sink, baby change table and baby bath (also shower chair and shower curtain) all flat inside. Used the laundry facilities (three machines £3-7 depending on your needs) and a washing line outside if needed but there’s also a big dryer (£1/10min) WiFi on site but we never got the code, phone signal was pretty thin tbh. Useful wee shop with pre-order pastries, bread. Pizza on Sat when we were there (last May BH) Had a problem with the washing machine - help was just a call away. Lovely staff. Classic awkward narrow country lanes to get there so would travel out of peak if possible. Same for traveling around the nearby towns and beaches etc (all incredible!). Would have loved a play area but realise it’s not essential, just makes a morning or afternoon free on site with kids easier around those naps!

I’d class myself as a fairly seasoned camper, mostly around Cornwall, but after a friend’s recommendation I decided to stray from my beloved homeland and venture into the “dark side” of Devon (don’t worry, I still put the jam on first and the cream on top). My friend suggested Karrageen, and what a fantastic site it turned out to be. It’s around a 15‑minute walk or a 5‑minute drive to the stunning Hope Cove, which is honestly one of the most beautiful spots I’ve visited. Karrageen is a family‑run site, and the owners and staff are genuinely brilliant. We had a small issue with the WiFi , the signal is mostly strongest on the first and second terraces but after we mentioned it, the owners actually came over to our pitch to help troubleshoot and explain what might be causing the problem. When we left, we even got a personal farewell, which was a lovely touch and made the stay feel even more welcoming. They even told us to take our time decamping as no one was on the pitch afterwards. If I had to find one criticism, it would be the distance from “Divers Terrace” to the toilet block. It’s absolutely fine during the day, but it does feel like a bit of a trek if you need a late‑night dash. Overall, though, it’s a fantastic campsite in a beautiful location, and I’ll definitely be returning as soon as I can. Thank you, Karrageen from the James family.
