Step into Blackloch and you're met with a properly laid-out home. The ground floor holds the living spaces—a sitting room with woodburner, separate dining room, and a front sun room facing the garden. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking, with oven, hob, dishwasher and everything else needed. Off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and space for bikes and boots; there's also a pool table here. Upstairs are three bedrooms: two with king beds, one with twin singles (can be zipped together). Two bathrooms serve the house, one with bath and shower attachment, one with walk-in shower.

Blackloch stands just outside Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, surrounded by rural countryside. The property has on-site parking for three cars, a front lawn with seating area, and an enclosed rear courtyard. One dog is welcome provided it stays on a lead—this is sheep country. Essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, along with initial fuel for the woodburner. The house is non-smoking. It suits families and groups of friends looking for a base to explore the region or simply settle in for a few days without leaving.

About 15 minutes walk from the car park. Beautiful scenery with some little waterfalls nearby. A lovely walk with our dogs

We stayed at the Forestry Commission's "Stay the Night" site in our campervan. It was completely dark and quiet overnight. So peaceful. We took a short stroll around the loch and didn't see a soul. Recommended.

Bit off the beaten track, but worth the rough drive up the track to a large enough carpark, off the main road... Really quiet and peaceful when we were there, nice walk around the loch, plenty of bird song to accompany our walk... The spire (the eye) is a impressive structure to see, taller than I expected... On the same walk has stone faces, which we didn't see on this trip, but will be back..
