Edenville

Step through the entrance at Edenville and you're immediately in a single open-plan space on the ground floor—living room, dining area and kitchen flowing together, all within one room. A wood-burning stove anchors the lounge; the kitchen has an electric cooker and dishwasher for self-catering meals. Three bedrooms are spread across the property: one with a super king bed, the other two each with two single beds. Three bathrooms serve the space, with one offering a bath and shower, the other a walk-in shower cubicle. Heating is biomass central; electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are provided, along with firewood for the stove.

The cottage sits on a working farm 50 yards from the sea, with a sandy beach within easy walking distance across the fields. An enclosed lawned garden with patio and gas barbecue offers outdoor space; there's parking for two cars. One dog is welcome. The area around Mossyard in south-west Scotland supports activities from coastal walks to water sports, cycling routes through Galloway Forest Park, and visits to nearby castles and gardens. Gatehouse of Fleet is a short drive for shops and restaurants.
