Everything you need for a group holiday is here. The Dun Cow comes with bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating included, plus a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—range cooker, dishwasher, microwave and full-size fridge. There are five bedrooms sleeping eight across three floors: a kingsize and two doubles, plus two singles. Two bathrooms serve the house, one with a bath and shower, the other a shower cubicle. A utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer for longer stays. Beyond the basics, you get a hot tub in a private garden, a garage for three cars, and enough sitting space to spread out—two separate living areas with woodburners, plus an enclosed garden with patio furniture and barbecue.

The building itself was once Durham's Dun Cow pub, and the carved sign above the door matches one on Durham Cathedral's northwest turret. Today it functions as a straightforward holiday cottage in the village of Bishop Middleham, eight miles from the cathedral city. Walking routes and cycle paths run directly from the village into County Durham's countryside. The house doesn't allow smoking. One well-behaved pet stays free. Children's equipment like a highchair and stairgate are available on request.

Alright but far too expensive for what it is. Usual older clientele clearly think they own the place and are resistant to new customers. I understand it’s trying to preserve its roots but it needs money ploughing into it and a bit of quiet music in the background to help improve the atmosphere and make it more welcoming.

I used to visit this pub frequently when I studied in Durham, but that was thirty years ago! It hasn't really changed much. It's a quirky den with a small front room and larger back area and then an outdoor alley walk to the toilet ... Quite a throwback and walk down memory lane. Three cask beers on. Landlord, Castle Eden and Moorhoises White Witch, so can't really complain about that at all. Nice to pop back after a long time and the locals/regulars were very friendly. Worth a visit.

This was such a fun little pub to visit. A very small space with only a few people but it was very cozy. The bartender was really nice and recommended a non alcoholic Pilsner for me which was great!

Lovely pub. Went twice. First time had some ex- Durham University students. They were not helpful, but came on a Sunday and it was all locals. The chat was brilliant. You can't describe the atmosphere, but it was great. Better on a day like that
