Sid Valley Cottages - The Carriages
East Devon

Couples and small groups will find The Carriages suits a quiet break away from it all. This cottage forms part of a converted barn complex set across substantial grounds in the Sid Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The setting is rural enough to feel properly removed, yet Sidmouth's seafront sits only three miles away, and the East Devon coast—designated a World Heritage site—is readily accessible for day trips.
Three bedrooms sleep four: the first floor has two with zip-and-link super king beds that convert to twin singles, both with ensuite showers; upstairs is a double bedroom with a bathtub and shower. Downstairs, an open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining and sitting areas, with a Freeview TV and electric cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The grounds offer a heated outdoor swimming pool (summer season, shared with other properties), a tennis court, gardens and a patio with seating. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available in a shared laundry room on-site, and there is parking in the private car park. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
The location opens onto walking routes including the Foxglove Way, and cycling, fishing and riding are all close by. A pub lies within a mile. Exeter is fifteen minutes' drive north; the market town of Honiton, known for lace and antiques, is five miles further on.

What guests say
The owners, Stephen and Sarah are fantastic hosts in a beautiful building and setting. The meals are outstanding and cooked by Sarah and Stephen themselves. The bedrooms are wonderful and comfortable, and tastefully designed, and there is everything you need in them for a really good night's sleep. The quality of everything is excellent, including the warm and genuinely thoughtful welcome from Sarah and Stephen personally. They love their home and want their guests to love it, too - and the do!

We had the most amazing 4 x night stay at this hotel. We booked the self catering cottage’s which were so lovely full of everything you needed super clean beautiful crisp white Bed linen & fluffy white towels. L’occitane toiletries in the bathrooms. Steve & Sarah were the most gorgeous hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They opened the pool & sorted sun loungers for us as we had some fabulous sunshine during our stay. The pool was warm & super clean. We took our whippet with us who really enjoyed playing with Max & Benson the hosts blacks labs who were super lovely. The location was perfect for us great walking & a short drive to Sidmouth & other beaches. Highly recommend this wonderful place to stay.

First things first, we got 2 flat tyres on the way to the hotel thanks to a delightful Devon lane ( Not the one going to the hotel I hasten to add) but on phoning Stephen and Sarah to say we would be late their immediate response was "we will come and get you". No ifs or buts, just without thought Sarah came out and picked up my partner and our dog. Now that is seriously caring for your customers! The hotel itself is situated in an idyllic location with beautiful grounds and acres of space to walk your dog. We stayed in the Stable self catering room with beautiful views over the valley. It was clean and comfortable with a lovely heated floor bathroom and gorgeous shower. We eat twice in the hotel and the food was amazing and plenty of it. The hospitality of Stephen and Sarah is second to none and nothing is too much trouble, even to the point that Stephen drove me to get my car when the tyres had been replaced. All in all a wonderful few days away and wish we had booked for a few days more. Thank you folks for everything, we will return.

The Sid Valley Country House Hotel is an incredibly special place to stay. We had the warmest of welcomes from Sarah, Steve, and Benson. Nothing was too much trouble, and the attention to detail in the accommodation was fantastic. This is a perfect place for nature lovers, and bird watchers to come and stay. The views are stunning, beds are comfortable, and self catering lodges are spacious and well designed. Highly recommended, cant wait to come back.
