About Wealderness

Tucked into a remote High Weald meadow beside a heritage steam railway, Wealderness is a tranquil, off-grid glamping retreat for adults and children aged seven-plus. Guests consistently praise the beautiful woodland setting, the sense of total seclusion, and the thoughtful touches that make each pitch feel private and special. Days unfold slowly here: cooking over your own barbecue, reading in a hammock, wandering nearby trails, or gathering at the communal firepit as dusk settles in.

The composting loos and solar-powered showers keep things eco-friendly, while free wifi means you're not entirely cut off. Some visitors note the site can feel rustic in wet weather, with uneven, sometimes muddy terrain, but most find that adds to the charm. West Hoathly's village pub is a five-minute drive, and Horsted Keynes station on the Bluebell Railway makes a lovely half-hour walk. A peaceful Sussex hideaway where slowing down is the whole point.

What an amazing place!!! We had such a fun weekend at Wilderness Wood! From the amazing grounds— with so much to explore and swing on, jump off, look at or peek through— through to the brilliant facilities — wood fired woodland showers, decent toilets and wash blocks — and also the great communal areas: the cool house, where we cooked a great meal for 40 people, as well as the conveniently located kids play area right next door. There’s also a great cafe with cakes, coffee, teas, cold drinks and some alcoholic drinks (in the evening). Would highly recommend this place and the team who were so helpful and friendly!

We went there spontaneously and a bit late but still we had an hour walk, my kids (school age and toddler) loved it, they walked, run, we played hide and seek and there so many things to do. Beautiful forest and owners are so creative and look after it well. Definitely will be back again!

We went for a walk and hot chocolate after. The person at the cafe gave us a map and informed us of the £4 per person charge. The walk was well structured and took around 30mins with some short stops to take in the sculptures and markings on the map. You could spend a little longer meandering off the tracks and through the woods but many sections are marked private for the community. A lovely community initiative and would be fab to come back for one of their wilderness education sessions or a Sunday pizza.

A really lovely woods. Luckily we had beautiful weather for a few hours here. I took my dog and two children here. My dog was on and off the lead, I put him on the lead when around others, just to be safe. But everyone who we came across was friendly and wanted to say hello. My kids played with other kids. It's a nice walk, nice little areas for kids to play and explore.
