The Old Chapel

East Riding of Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Couples and solo travellers will find The Old Chapel suits a quiet countryside break. This single-bedroom property, converted from a 19th-century chapel schoolroom, stands on a working arable and livestock farm near Hempholme. Everything is on the ground floor: a combined living and dining space with Freeview TV and DVD player, a kitchen equipped for proper cooking with electric oven and gas hob, a bedroom with a king-size bed, and an ensuite shower room. One dog is welcome here, though must stay on a lead given the farm setting. Electricity, bed linen and towels are provided; gas central heating keeps things warm.

The building's rural location means walks start from the doorstep, and several nature reserves lie within reach—Tophill Low, RSPN Bempton, Spurn Point and North Cave Wetlands are all nearby for anyone interested in birdwatching. For other activities, Billabong and Fosse Hill offer water sports, Hainsworth Park has golf, and fishing is available locally. The market town of Beverley, 12 miles away, has a 13th-century minster and racecourse. The Yorkshire Wolds, the coastal towns of Hornsea, Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough, the North Yorkshire Moors, and York are all within reasonable driving distance. A shop, pub and restaurant can be found three miles away. On-site parking for one car and a lawned garden with seating complete the setup.
