Uttoxeter sits within reach of several worthwhile stops. The town itself has independent shops and pubs; Alton Towers is roughly 20 minutes' drive away; and the Peak District offers walking and outdoor activities not much further. Walford Lodge sits on the edge of this landscape, on the Loxley Park estate—a rural setting where you can walk straight into fields.

The lodge is a single-storey property sleeping four, with two bedrooms (both kingsize) and two bathrooms, so there is space and privacy without the noise and expense of a larger house. The living space combines kitchen, dining area and lounge in one room, with doors opening onto the garden. The kitchen has a full range of appliances for proper cooking—electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave. Both bedrooms have televisions and en-suite showers. A wood-burning stove provides warmth. Essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, along with a welcome pack on arrival.

The main draw is the private hot tub in the front garden, which seats six. There is also garden furniture, a barbecue, and enough lawn for sitting out. Two cars can park on the property. Note that no children (other than babies in arms) are permitted, and smoking is not allowed inside.

What a fabulous stay at Loxford Lodge, Loxley Park, Uttoxeter. Pat, our host, who is so friendly and welcoming, was there to show us around our accommodation, a spacious and incredibly well-appointed and equipped lodge. The beautiful interior was matched by the equally beautiful setting of the rolling Staffordshire landscape that was the backdrop to the views from every room in the lodge. Relaxing in the hot tub, under a star studded sky, was the perfect end to the day before retiring in one of the most comfortable beds we've ever experienced. We'll be back!
