Blair Street Vaults

We booked the Doomed, Dead & Buried Tour and Sarah was our guide. It gives you a unique underground experience by taking you to the Blair Street Underground Vaults. Located beneath the South Bridge in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. Sarah was a delight, and her ghost stories leant to a perfect backdrop experience of these 18th Century vaults. The tour ended in Canongate Kirk. Absolutely a fun experience.

Mercat Tours was the perfect way to spend our first night in Edinburgh! Marina is a gifted storyteller who kept our whole family engaged, blending fascinating history with just the right amount of spooky stories. Ending the evening with a wee dram in the Mercat Vaults was such a magical touch and the perfect finale to the tour. We also appreciated the thoughtful details—they even provided portable stools for our 7-year-old, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the experience. Highly recommend this tour for families looking for a fun, memorable introduction to Edinburgh!

I did the Secrets of the Edinburgh Royal Mile tour with Mercat Tours and had a fantastic experience, mainly thanks to our guide, Andrea. She was outstanding—knowledgeable, engaging, and very clear, bringing the story of Edinburgh to life, covering everything from the early Scottish monarchy to the present day. The walking tour (including entry to Edinburgh Castle) is very complete and interesting—you learn about Scottish monarchs and dynasties, life in the Old Town versus the New Town, and how the city evolved over time, including its volcanic setting and everyday details like water access. Highly recommended whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family.

We joined the doomed, dead and buried tour… we were also calling it the vault tour. Kristy was our tour guide and her humour, delivery, and overall performance was welcomed by our whole group. She mixed a lot of darker history, some urban legends, and some hard facts to make our tour very worth while. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was entertaining for all and just getting into the underground vaults was worth the cost of admission.
