About Westermill Farm
Westermill sits at the end of a long private track in a secluded valley two miles from Exford, deep in the heart of Exmoor. This 500-acre working hill farm offers around fifteen acres of mown meadow divided into four fields along the River Exe, where you simply choose your spot and pitch beside your car—no marked plots, no regimentation. The real draw is the freedom to light proper campfires in designated areas, a rarity in England that keeps families returning year after year, along with shallow stretches of river perfect for paddling and wild swimming.
Facilities are clean and adequate rather than luxurious: family shower rooms, laundry, a large drying room and Calor gas exchange, but no electric hook-up and no bar or restaurant. Four waymarked walks climb straight into the surrounding hills from the farmyard, and because the entire valley falls within the International Dark Sky Reserve, stargazing on clear nights is exceptional. Self-catering cottages provide backup if the weather turns, and booking is essential for bank holidays and school breaks when the riverside pitches fill quickly.

What visitors say
Wonderful campsite, perfectly suited to travelling with horses. Oliver and Jill are both such lovely characters and can’t do enough to accommodate and make sure you’re comfortable and looked after, they both went above and beyond to be flexible with me as I was doing a long trek and they even kept my horse feed nice and safe for me. The pitch areas are impeccable and the grazing paddocks for horses are absolutely ideal. The facilities are perfectly good, nice warm showers and the river runs through the camp site so you can splash around there too. This spot really feels nestled away in the most idyllic pocket of Exmoor, close to two great pubs, The Crown in Exford and Exmoor Inn in Simonsbath so plenty of haunts to choose from. I will 100% be staying at the campsite with my horse again.

Very nice campsite not far from Exford in the Exe valley. Overall layout is 4 separate fields / meadows in the valley. Plenty of space . Fire pits are provided in the furthest away field , which is also the largest field , running along beside the river Exe ( which in summer is normally a stream). You can buy bags of logs from the campsite. The first field also has a washing up area, washing machine, together with toilets and showers ( with hot and cold water ). There is a further toilet block with cold water between field 3 and 4. Which is quite convenient. We really enjoyed our stay. The lanes approaching the campsite are quite narrow with only a few passing spaces. Personally I wouldn’t bring a big motorhome or caravan to this site , but other people did whilst we were there. There was a friendly (Canadian!) guy on reception who provided advice on the campsite and local area. The water on the campsite is all spring water. There were a couple of geese in the first field. If you want a spacious and friendly campsite, in a peaceful rural location, I would highly recommend this campsite.

Wonderful campsite for a relaxing stay surrounded by nature. Well kept spacious grass pitches, trees, sheep & a delightful stream running alongside. Hot showers, very clean toilets & washing up areas. We were just passing through & only planning to stay 1 night but had to squeeze in another night as this place was too lovely to leave!

Great spot for long leisurely walks and star gazing at night. Friendly owners are happy to offer advice on hiking trails and viewpoints. Local pub and store only a couple of miles away. Would recommend to anyone wanting to recharge in a peaceful environment.
