The Old Granary

Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean wraps around this converted granary, a rural base that opens onto countryside while staying within reach of Newent's market-town amenities. The property sits on grounds large enough for real garden life—a lawned area, enclosed patio, barbecue and heated outdoor pool (available mid-May to late September) that doubles as a social hub. A tennis court is also on site. Woodland walking and cycling trails branch out from the doorstep; further afield, the Wye Valley, Cotswolds towns and Welsh Border lie within easy driving distance.

Four bedrooms and two bathrooms accommodate eight. Downstairs, an open-plan living space contains a wood-burning stove, dining area and kitchen equipped for proper cooking. A ground-floor shower room means the layout works for mixed ages and mobilities. Upstairs, two bedrooms have zip-and-link super-king beds (convertible to singles), one offers a double, and the fourth has two singles; a bathroom with bath and shower serves the upper floor. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wood-burner fuel are all included. The property has eight steps up to the entrance.

Within a short drive sit Three Choirs Vineyard for tastings, a Birds of Prey Centre, Gloucester Cathedral and its docks museum ten miles away, and numerous garden centres and golf courses. The poolside summerhouse has a sink and fridge for entertaining. No smoking throughout.
