About Heal Somerset

Perched on a rewilding farm just 15 minutes from Bruton, Heal Somerset offers one of the West Country's most immersive wild camping experiences. This peaceful pop-up site sprawls across an unmown meadow with no numbered pitches—choose your spot and drink in those spectacular Somerset valley views. The setup is deliberately basic: a mains tap and compost loo in the field, plus a barn 300 metres away housing hot showers and washing-up facilities. It's a proper off-grid retreat, with no warden on-site and vehicles kept to a separate parking area (though you can drop heavy gear first).

Once pitched, follow mown paths into the rewilding zones to watch nature reclaim the land—the wildlife here is genuinely abundant. Dogs aren't permitted to protect that habitat, and occasional trains rumble through the valley below, but these minor trade-offs feel small against the privilege of camping somewhere genuinely wild. Ideal for walkers, families, and anyone seeking proper solitude under canvas.

What’s not to like? An inspirational project on a large scale. Changes are being made, not only by man (woman!) but by nature. Beavers have come. Amazing “engineers”. How fantastic is that? My third visit and it’s fantastic to see the changes. Will visit next in Summer.

What a great project … returning 500 acres back to nature … sure it’s going to take time , but the team at Heal are dedicated to making it happen , and to doing the same in every county across the uk . The land( the south field ) is open to the public 24/7 … to walk and enjoy the English countryside as nature reclaims it , plants insects and wildlife all on show . Make a donation if you go , it’s beautiful .
