About The Lock Keepers

The Lock Keepers pairs a contemporary British restaurant with eight en-suite guest rooms in a canalside building at Over, on the western edge of Gloucester close to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Its position beside the water gives it a genuinely tranquil feel while remaining only a short drive from the cathedral and city centre.

The restaurant serves seasonal, locally sourced dishes for lunch and dinner through the week and a dedicated Sunday lunch service, and its reputation for food is the main draw for many guests booking a room. Rooms are simply but comfortably furnished, aimed at guests prioritising the dining experience alongside a peaceful overnight stay.

Its small scale and canalside setting suit couples and travellers after a quieter, more intimate alternative to Gloucester's larger hotels, with the city's main sights easily reached by a short drive or taxi.

This has become my favourite place to eat in Gloucester, the ingredients are fresh and the menu is updated seasonally with food choices that are all excellent. I have the fillet steak and it is one of the best meals I’ve had in years. Cooked to perfection with an amazing peppercorn sauce. I can’t recommend this place enough!

What an amazing spot for lunch! Everything on the menu looked delicious, didn’t feel rushed and the staff are all very friendly. Had a little walk along the canal/river afterwards which was perfect

The staff were very welcoming, the food was lovely, especially the cheesecake, delicious! We found it quite noisy, ( we were seated in one of the middle tables) I do think that if you sat around the edge tables might have been better. ( I do suffer with tinnitus ). But we will definitely go again & hopefully sit elsewhere. .

Yesterday I had an amazing Sunday lunch, the best I’ve had for a long time. I chose the topside of beef, it was so tender it fell apart, beautifully cooked! I had the pastry parcels to start with, filled with mozzarella, tomato and olive. To finish I chose the shot of expresso to pour over a scoop of ice cream, what a clever idea, I’ve never had this before! Ideal for myself being diabetic, just the right amount and less sugar than in a normal sweet menu. I honestly couldn’t fault anything and will be returning soon. Highly recommended.
